Purple Rain

LP (Item 44493) Warner, 1984 — Condition: Very Good
Also available
Prince — Purple Rain (2CD deluxe edition) ... CD 14.99

One of the greatest crossover albums of the 80s – and the record that catapulted Prince very firmly into the mainstream! There's a tightness here that surpasses even that of Prince's early classics for Warner Brothers – an unabashed love of a pop hook that makes for some incredibly catchy tunes that are still delivered with a nice funky undercurrent. The whole Prince family is at the top of their game at this point – and titles include "Darling Nikki", "Let's Go Crazy", "I Would Die 4 U", "When Doves Cry", "Baby I'm A Star", and "Purple Rain". (Includes the printed inner sleeve.)  © 1996-2018, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

It's the late 80s and after the decision to keep the Black album in the can, Prince gives us Lovesexy. Not his finest moment, but far from his weakest, with more than a couple nice numbers like "Alphabet Street", "Lovesexy", "When 2 R In Love" and "Anna ... LP, Vinyl record album

Warner, 1981. Very Good+
Classic Prince – an album that signaled an end to the first part of Prince's storied career, leaning heavily on his fascination with new wave, mixed with the r&b grooves and 70s funk of his earliest LPs. Prince is definitely in a transitional mode here, the easy politics of the punk era ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of the two early Earth Wind & Fire LPs recorded for Warner – and the one that shows their amazing roots in the avant-garde jazz scene in Chicago. One of the best early albums from Tower Of Power – with kind of a funky choppy groove that feels like a San Francisco version of the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, riffing away in a stoner funk mode that always sounds like it might go off slightly, but which always wobbles back on course. ...
