Caribbean Moonlight

LP (Item 4438) Capitol, Mid 50s — Condition: Near Mint-
Not as all-out exotic as some of Les' earlier Capitol albums, but still pretty darn great! The theme here is Caribbean exotic, and the rhythms have a little bit more of Cuba and Haiti than they do of primitive Borneo. Les handles them nicely, as always, and contributes some wonderful arrangements to the album. Titles include "Deep Night", "Green Eyes", "Sway", "Out Of This World", and "Adios".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Confetti
Capitol, 1958. Very Good+
A groovy Les Baxter album from the pre-exotica years – a set that showcases all the lively, jaunty styles that Les brought to his initial instrumental run on Capitol Records! Jackie Gleason

Riff Jazz
Capitol, Mid 50s. Very Good+
We're not exactly sure what "riff jazz" is, but we can definitely say that the album's one of Jackie Gleason's jazziest from the 50s – a really hard-hitting affair that gets past the sleepier arrangements of other records, and makes great use of breakout solo work from Jimmy ... Lonesome Echo
Capitol, Mid 50s. Very Good+
A fantastic album – if only for the cover! The record features a rare cover image that's an obscure painting by Salvador Dali – and the back cover features a photo of Jackie and Dali shaking hands! Jackie Gleason's soundtrack for "that moment" of love, lust, whatever. Like a lot of his stuff from this period, not totally spot-on for the specified act (at least we'd never try to make "that moment" happen with this stuff), but it's still pretty great lush orchestral stuff, ... Ole! Bossa Nova
Capitol, 1963. Very Good
Classic pop bossa material from the Capitol scene, featuring a host of groovy jazz players backing up the breezy guitar of Laurindo Almeida.
