Bogie

LP (Item 443553) Fantasy, 1988 — Condition: Near Mint-

We love this record – a larger concept album from Jackie & Roy – almost their Ishtar moment! It's late in the career of Jackie & Roy, but the pair haven't faltered a bit. Bogie is a surprisingly great live set from 1988 – a dozen songs dedicated to Humphrey Bogart, either from his films, or written in onor of them – performed by Jackie & Roy in a style that's without schmaltz or hoke – and which features some great lyrical twists that are very much in the "smart" Hollywood mode of the postwar years, which was fading strongly by the time of this session. Titles include "Am I Blue", "Bogie", "As Time Goes By", "Key Largo", "Hong Kong Blues", "Play It Again, Sam", "Moanin Low", and "How Little We Know".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Lovesick
Verve, Mid 60s. Very Good+ Gatefold
Wonderfully groovy work from the team of Jackie Cain & Roy Kral – a set that has the pair moving into much hipper modes for the 60s, and really taking off from the greatness of earlier records! Storyville, Mid 50s. Very Good-
One of the greatest albums ever cut by Jackie and Roy! This one captures them in the early days – right after they'd left Charlie Ventura, and were beginning to sing and pen some fantastic little jazz ditties on their own.
