Hollyridge Strings Play The Beach Boys Song Book Vol 2

LP (Item 44166) Capitol, Mid 60s — Condition: Very Good

This set is from a few years later than the first Beach Boys Song Book – and as such, features a groovier sound overall! There's still plenty of strings in the mix, but the arrangements from Mort Garson and Perry Botkin also show some of the growing love of sound used by the group – little instrumental elements, well-shaded musical moments, just the sort of styles that Brian Wilson might bring to his own backings – although with a bit more strings! The tunes are a great mix of Pet Sounds-era tunes and some earlier numbers – and titles include "Caroline No", "Good Vibrations", "Little Deuce Coupe", "God Only Knows", "Wouldn't It Be Nice", "Help Me Rhonda", and "Be True To Your School".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a split bottom seam and light surface wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Wild Guitars
Capitol, Late 50s. Very Good
A pretty great album from Les – quite different than his exotica albums from the time, but in a nice way! Nelson Riddle

Sea Of Dreams
Capitol, Mid 50s. Very Good
Some of Riddle's dreamiest work – a pillow-soft set of lush backings, with lots of swirling strings to create the "sea of dreams" in the title! The cover alone is worth the price of the record (and we hardly ever say that!) – as it features a nude woman, floating under water, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Yma Sumac sings chants of the Andes – and authentic or not, the sound's pretty darn great! Jackie Gleason

Lonesome Echo
Capitol, Mid 50s. Very Good
A fantastic album – if only for the cover! The record features a rare cover image that's an obscure painting by Salvador Dali – and the back cover features a photo of Jackie and Dali shaking hands! Dreamy work from Les Baxter – featuring his chorus and orchestra over string-heavy arrangements that match the midnight sea setting on the cover.
