Change (Makes You Want To Hustle) (parts 1 & 2)

7-inch (Item 4388) Blue Note, 1975 — Condition: Very Good

A classic from Donald Byrd – a wonderful number done in collaboration with Larry Mizell – and a mad mix of Latin and jazz funk grooving! Simply sublime – with a soulful feel that grabs you from the first note!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(In a Blue Note sleeve. Label has a sticker.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Dyke & The Blazers

City Dump/You Are My Sunshine
Original Sound, Late 60s. Very Good
"City Dump" is one of Dyke's best, with a clanking funky 45 groove all the way through. "You Are My Sunshine" is a cover of the classic, but given the unique Dyke twist. 7-inch, Vinyl record
Josie, Late 60s. Very Good
Classic funky soul from The Meters! "Sophisticated Cissy" was a follow-up to "Cissy Strut", and it's got the same tight grooves as that one – and some great Meters guitar! "Sehorns Farms" is another Meters classic – and the single's the kind of double-head ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Fabulous Counts

Jan Jan/Girl From Kenya
Moira, Early 70s. Good+
Monster funk – and one of the all-time great funky 45s! "Jan Jan" has this sinister mix of horns and organ that's never been duplicated again – one that pounds away for a very unique intro, before guitar twangs in and sets the whole thing rocking! "Girl From Kenya" ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Rotary Connection

Respect/The Weight
Cadet, Late 60s. Very Good-
"Respect" is one of the best tracks by this classic Chicago group – and it's got a great intro that you'll recognize from a famous sample, and a nice spooky groove that runs through the track! 7-inch, Vinyl record
Twinight, Late 60s. Good
Beautiful original single of Syl's classic track about racial disenfranchisement. The track's filled with deep deep Chicago soul, and it's a stunning set of haunting guitar-based arrangements that are beyond compare! The flip's a nice original, also written by Syl. 7-inch, Vinyl record
King, Late 60s. Very Good-
One of James' best instrumental tracks from the late 60s, and a groover that's been sampled more than once! Hard to find in any shape – and this original 45 plays nice and loud! 7-inch, Vinyl record
King, Late 60s. Very Good-
An excellent funky track from The Godfather! The cut's got this cool little popping guitar that's very unique – snapping away through the whole track, creating this sinister groove that's hardly ever been matched! Darn hard to find on vinyl in any form, too! 7-inch, Vinyl record
King, Late 60s. Good
Both tracks are very nice, and the single is an excellent example of James at his strongest in the 60's. "If I Ruled The World" is a beautiful ballad soul cut, infused with the kind of subtle politics that James used before hitting his more radical days. "I Got The Feelin" has ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Little Beaver

Joey/Funkadelic Sound
Cat, Early 70s. Very Good
Nice early work from Little Beaver! "Joey" is one of his classics, and has a soulful bluesy groove, in the same vein as early Latimore and other Miami greats. "Funkadelic Sound" is the real winner, though – and has more of a James Brown funk groove than a George Clinton ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Revilot, Late 60s. Very Good
A great little soul track – and the record that put George Clinton on the map! "Testify" is a landmark cut – with a great rolling soul sound that takes up the heavy production style of Detroit, and points it towards the psychedelic future of the Mothership. The flipside's a ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
