Make It Right

LP (Item 437817) Liberty, 1982 — Condition: Very Good-

Warm harmony soul from Marz – sometimes sweet and mellow, sometimes upbeat and grooving – but always done in a tight style that's right on the money all the time! Marz echo a bit of the sound of LA soul in the early 80s – particularly some of the bassier modes of the Solar Records groups on their funkier cuts – but they've also got a nicely unique way of putting over a warm ballad without making things too sleepy or too commercial – almost a bit spacey and stepping, when they really get things right! Titles include "Hooked On That Lovin' Thing", "Stay With Me", "Seriously", "You Got Me Crying Again", "Move It Groove It", "Make It Right", "One More Minute", and "Everybody Get Up".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has light wear.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Gene McDaniels

Hundred Pounds Of Clay
Liberty, 1961. Very Good
Hard to bel3eve that this is the guy who went on to record Headless Heroes of the Apocalypse, but back in the 60's (and probably even in the 70's), he was a lot better known for the title hit "100 Pounds Of Clay", and for his sweet smooth deep vocal style. The album includes his big hit, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gene McDaniels

Hit After Hit
Liberty, 1962. Very Good
A well-titled album, as it features some of Gene's big early hits, mixed along with lesser-known gems – all done in that proud, loud style he used before becoming the Headless Hero! Snuff Garrett produced most of the work, and the tunes have a bold approach that certainly draws from the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Randy Brown

Intimately
Parachute/Casablanca, 1979. Very Good
Excellent work from Randy Brown – a great singer with a massive talent for being both smooth and deep at the same time, something we'd reserve for a rare few, like Frankie Beverly or Teddy Pendergrass during their best periods. This album featuers Randy singing tracks written by Homer Banks ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lou Rawls

Your Good Thing
Capitol, Late 60s. Very Good+
Another one of the really good Lou Rawls albums from the late 60's. David Axelrod produced, and the drums are nice and hard, especially on "I Can't Make It Alone", which he arranged. Other tracks include "Give Me Your Love" (not the Curtis Mayfield song), "When She ... LP, Vinyl record album

I Cried For You
Cadet, Early 60s/Late 60s. Very Good+
Fantastic Johnny "Guitar" Watson album, and one that features him playing no guitar at all! Instead, he plays piano, and with a nice bluesy style that sounds great. He sings mostly standards, but in a fantastic way that twists them inside out, and that gives them all these great soulful ... LP, Vinyl record album

Talking Book
Tamla, 1972. Very Good Gatefold
One of the classics, and an album that's filled with a sense of majesty and power that will knock you dead – despite the kind of silly cover of Stevie sitting on a hill, playing in the dirt! By this point, Stevie knows he's on top of the world as well he should – and he's honing the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stevie Wonder

Songs In The Key Of Life
Tamla, 1976. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
A sweet little double LP – one that had some folks saying that Stevie should have stayed away from the "2LP syndrome", but for us a real treasure with lots of hidden gems. Besides the hits "Isn't She Lovely" and "Sir Duke", which were more than enough to carry ... LP, Vinyl record album

T Neck/Columbia, 1977. Very Good+ Gatefold
A funky album – but one that we love best for the mellow tracks! Copper Plated Integrated Circuit

Plugged In Pop
Command, 1969. Very Good Gatefold
Very cool moog album with a Perry-Kingsley feel. That is, it's got sort of a sharp electronic sound, but with grooviness underneath that keeps the whole thing going along at a jaunty pace. At times, the electronic sounds will break down into a bunch of noise, and then jump into a swingin' poppy ... LP, Vinyl record album
