A sweet little Verve set from the team of Wild Bill Davis and Johnny Hodges – 2 older players who both seemed to find new life in their music when working together! On Davis' part, the organist hits a more open, more modern approach to his instrument – one that clearly puts him at the level of some of his younger contemporaries on the soul jazz scene of the 60s. On Hodges' part, the pairing makes for a sometimes more relaxed style – and one that really helps him break out of the shadows of Ellington with a range of new settings and sounds!
