Love Letters

LP (Item 4322) Tommy Boy, 1984 — Condition: Very Good-

Sweet electro soul from Force MDs – an early album for Tommy Boy that helped set the scene for a countless imitations to come! The record features a unique blend of older harmony soul (clearly referenced by the old school sweaters on the cover) and (then) current electro production – in a mode that supports the vocals with instrumentation from the Tackhead trio of Keith LeBlanc on drums, Doug Wimbush on bass, and Skip McDonald on guitar! Keyboards slide in and out of most tracks as well – and the tunes themselves shift from hook-heavy pop numbers to some gentler ballads that are often some of the best tunes in the set! Steinski makes a guest appearance on the classic "Itchin For A Scratch", and other tracks include "Tears", "Let's Stay Together", "Be Mine", "Don't Make Me Dance", and "Forgive Me Girl".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(White label promo. Cover has some ring & edge wear and a center split in the spine.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Prince

Purple Rain
Warner, 1984. Very Good-
One of the greatest crossover albums of the 80s – and the record that catapulted Prince very firmly into the mainstream! Malaco, 1984. Sealed
Electro 80s grooving from southern funk act Freedom – a record that shows that even the Malaco scene could pick up on bass licks, synth drums, and other production techniques being used heavily up north at the time! Feel Good
United Artists, 1973. Sealed
Feel Good is a tight little set that shows Ike Turner sitting equally on the fence between funk and rock – sometimes kickin into the kind of tightly snapping rhythms heard on his best late 60s work, at other points strutting into more of a guitar-based groove that he was using for the ... Up, Up, & Away
Cotique, Late 60s. Near Mint-
Heavy duty Latin Soul from Johnny Rivera – an excellent bandleader from the late 60s, with a sound that's a lot harder than you might guess from the Tijuana Brass in the title!
