Clark Terry's Big Bad Band Live At The Wichita Jazz Festival 1974

LP (Item 431475) Vanguard, 1975 — Condition: Near Mint-
A crowd-pleasing cooker from Clark Terry – a set recorded live before a very appreciative audience, and in a hipper 70s mode than you'd expect! The album's one of those great jazz efforts that was put together by Ed Bland – who seems to bring a nice sense of bounce, soul, and groove to the set – working with arrangements by Jimmy Heath, Phil Woods, Ernie Wilkins, and others who manage to keep Clark out of hoke territory, and into a very tightly swinging 70s big band groove. Other players include Jimmh Heath, Phil Woods, Richard Williams, Charles Davis, and Duke Jordan – and the tunes are lively and soulful throughout! Titles include "Randi", "Cold Tater Stomp", "Sheba", "Mumbles", "Una Mas", and "Nefertiti".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Clark Terry

Mumbles
Mainstream, 1966. Very Good+
A surprisingly great little record from Clark Terry – filled with warmth, humor, and some really great grooves! The core of the album is the track "Mumbles", one that's based around Terry kind of slurring a scat vocal to a jazzy 60s groove. The track was a minor hit at the time, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mike Mandel

Sky Music
Vanguard, 1978. Sealed
Sweet jazzy keys from Mike Mandel – grooving here in a fuller jazz funk mode that's a bit like the best work of the 70s on Kudu Records!
