We Still Ain't Got No Band

LP (Item 431340) MCA, 1973 — Condition: Near Mint-
They still ain't got no band, and they're still riding along at the height of their acapella success – one that was no doubt due to rising mainstream interest in older musical modes as part of the rock and roll revival of the post-Woodstock years – something that probably helped the group sell a lot more records than they would have singing like this back in the 50s! Tracks are a range of older soul numbers, covered by the group in their dynamic vocal style – and titles include "Love You Most Of All", "Steal Away", "Chapel Of Love", "You Must Believe Me", "Any More", "Dance With Me", and "Idol With The Golden Head".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Still in the shrink, with some clear tape at the top seam and one-sheet included. Cover has a cut corner and a small Sample sticker in back.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

MCA, 1979. Near Mint-
A great follow-up to War's first Music Band album – and proof that the group was still plenty darn funky at the end of the 70s! Although different from their original Chicano funk groove, the style here is still totally great – long, drawn-out funk that's filled with plenty of sharp ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chic

C'est Chic
Atlantic, 1978. Very Good

Isaac Hayes

Hot Buttered Soul
Enterprise, 1969. Very Good
Amazing stuff from Isaac Hayes! Although Ike had first appeared on LP with the album "Introducing", this was the first record to really expose his true soul genius – and it was also the first release on Ike's successful sub-label at Stax, Enterprise Records. The record shows that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Shaft
Enterprise, 1971. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
A landmark album that hardly needs any introduction – as it's one of the most famous soundtracks, if not soul records, of the 70s! Eddie Kendricks

Slick
Tamla/Motown, 1977. Very Good
Smooth mellow grooves, in the style that Eddie pioneered, and which he still did better than most. The album's a great batch of tracks with production by Leonard Caston, who also produced some of Eddie's earlier works, and the set's pretty darn great all the way through. With the cuts "Someth ... A damn great bit of work from the legendary Al Green – maybe one of his best records ever – and in fact, maybe one of greatest soul albums of all time! Ray Goodman & Brown

Ray, Goodman, & Brown II
Polydor, 1980. Very Good
Probably the best album Ray, Goodman, and Brown cut after they dissolved The Moments, and moved to Polydor. Sly & The Family Stone

Small Talk
Epic, 1974. Very Good
Sly's still doing pretty nice for himself in 1974 – with a sound that's perhaps a bit warmer than on the early records, but still nice and soulful – and peppered with a good dose of funk! The groove is really great on the set – bubbling with a more "deep down" feel than ... LP, Vinyl record album
