Shine On Me

LP (Item 431256) MCA, 1980 — Condition: Very Good-
Temporarily Out Of Stock

LP, Vinyl record album

✈
❔

A great batch of boogie from One Way – one of the few late 70s funky combos who were especially well suited to make the transition to 80s groove! The sound here is more electric and keyboard-heavy than previous One Way records – but the group's trademark soul-heavy approach to groove is still firmly in placed – and Al Hudson's vocals are matched by some equally great work from Kevin McCord, who's really helping the group find a deeper soul sound on the mellower tracks. Titles include "Shine On Me", "So Afraid It's Over", "Didn't You Know It", "Sugar Rock", "Together Forever", "Let's Get Together", and "Bring It Down"  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has some wear.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Love Current
MCA, 1979. Sealed

Massive work from Alicia Myers – a set that's right up there with her One Way recordings, but with some deeper, more personal touches as well! Dream Express

Dream Express
MCA/Carousel, 1979. Very Good
Dream Express have some pretty freaky hair on the cover – almost clownish costumes that seem to fit the good natured feel of this disco session from the late 70s! The project's helmed by Wes Farrell & Al DeLory – and even though Dream Express are pictured on the back, and listed ... LP, Vinyl record album

Alicia Myers

Alicia Again
MCA, 1981. Near Mint-
One of the nicest solo records by Alicia Myers – formerly a vocalist with Al Hudson and The Soul Partners, but sounding even better here on her own. Thelma Houston

Qualifying Heat
MCA, 1984. Near Mint-
Although Thelma's best known for her grooves from earlier years, she still sounds plenty darn great on this sweet set from the mid 80s – a bouncy, buoyant batch of tunes that updates the rhythms a bit, but still serves up plenty of her classic-styled vocals! Backings are heavy on beats and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bill Summers & Summer's Heat

London Style
MCA, 1983. Near Mint-
Bill Summers' London Style here is one that's definitely influenced by the changes on the dancefloor coming from the UK in the early 80s – and the groove is a slightly more electrified take on the rhythms that Bill was laying down on previous albums for MCA! Overall, though, the sound's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Galaxy
MCA, 1977. Very Good
A massive jammer from War – and a record that brought the group to a whole new generation of listeners – as well as a good number of later fans who discovered some of these jams in the club! MCA, 1981. Very Good
Certainly one of the lesser sorts of soul soundtracks that you'll find, and an easily overlooked Roberta Flack record consisting of tracks for this low-budget comedy with Cicely Tyson and Richard Pryor. The music's mostly in an electric modern soul vein – even the instrumental bits – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Alicia Myers

I Appreciate
MCA, 1984. Sealed
A stone classic from Alicia Myers – one of her classic sets recorded during the MCA years of the mighty One Way empire! Working Week

Working Nights
Virgin (UK), 1985. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of the greatest soul groups from the UK in the 80s – a real bright spot in the years before Soul II Soul and the rise of acid jazz – and a set we'd rank right up there with Sade's best work of the time! Working Week have a very jazzy sound at their core – acoustic rhythms, ... LP, Vinyl record album
