A really hard groover from Illinois Jacquet's later years on Chess – a solidly smoking session that features plenty of organ and guitar! There's a gutbuckety groove here that's a lot like some of Willis Jackson's best work on Prestige at the time – a style that's based around the deeply soulful tenor sound of the leader, but which also features some wonderfully playful accompaniment from the rest of the group, who push things past the obvious organ/tenor sound of the time, into the more unusual rhythms that showed up later in Jackson's years at Prestige. Players include Wally Richardson and and Kenny Burrell on guitar, Ralph Smith on organ, and Willie Rodriguez on percussion – giving some tunes a nice Latin flair!
