❔

Lenny's working here with Frank E Wilson – a great producer who really understood his style of singing, and who classed up his act considerably after the early days in Tower of Power. The album's got a good mix of smooth soul and uptempo numbers – and tracks include "Sweet Ecstasy", "If You're In Need", "Last Night I Dreamed", "Doing The Loop De Loop", "Here's To The Lady", and "Though We Loved Once".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a cutout notch.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Alicia Myers

Alicia
MCA, 1981. Very Good
Massive work from Alicia Myers – a set that's right up there with her One Way recordings, but with some deeper, more personal touches as well! Production is by Kevin McCord and Al Perkins from the One Way camp – and they bring in a nice mix of the funkier numbers that group was known ... LP, Vinyl record album

Dream Express

Dream Express
MCA/Carousel, 1979. Very Good
Dream Express have some pretty freaky hair on the cover – almost clownish costumes that seem to fit the good natured feel of this disco session from the late 70s! The project's helmed by Wes Farrell & Al DeLory – and even though Dream Express are pictured on the back, and listed ... LP, Vinyl record album

Thelma Houston

Qualifying Heat
MCA, 1984. Near Mint-
Although Thelma's best known for her grooves from earlier years, she still sounds plenty darn great on this sweet set from the mid 80s – a bouncy, buoyant batch of tunes that updates the rhythms a bit, but still serves up plenty of her classic-styled vocals! Backings are heavy on beats and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bill Summers & Summer's Heat

London Style
MCA, 1983. Near Mint-
Bill Summers' London Style here is one that's definitely influenced by the changes on the dancefloor coming from the UK in the early 80s – and the groove is a slightly more electrified take on the rhythms that Bill was laying down on previous albums for MCA! Overall, though, the sound's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Galaxy
MCA, 1977. Very Good
A massive jammer from War – and a record that brought the group to a whole new generation of listeners – as well as a good number of later fans who discovered some of these jams in the club! Alicia Myers

I Appreciate
MCA, 1984. Sealed
A stone classic from Alicia Myers – one of her classic sets recorded during the MCA years of the mighty One Way empire! Lonnie Jordan

Different Moods Of Me
MCA, 1978. Sealed Gatefold
A pretty sweet little solo album by Lonnie Jordan – a key War member during the group's biggest fame. The album lives up to its title, and serves up a number of different musical styles, all with Lonnie on keyboards and vocals – but the best work is the stuff that's still in the War-typ ... Marvin Gaye

Let's Get It On
Motown, 1973. Very Good- Gatefold
An amazing record that stunned the world almost as much as Marvin's previous effort, What's Going On. Motor Booty Affair
Casablanca, 1978. Very Good Gatefold
The Mothership goes under water – as George Clinton and crew groove away nicely on this water-themed set of tracks designed to raise Atlantis from the deep!
