2+2

LP (Item 42635) MPS/PA USA, 1980 — Condition: Near Mint-
One of the grooviest albums that Clare Fischer ever recorded – featuring his electric Latin fusion group Salsa Picante, fronted by a two-man/two-woman vocal quartet who give the album kind of a "Brasil 66 meets Singers Unlimited" kind of sound! Fisher is on Fender Rhodes, and the group features Poncho Sanchez on conga, percussion by Alex Acuna, and some great reed work by Gary Foster. Tracks include "Du Du", "Legacy", "Guajira Pa La Jeva", "Funiquado", "Melancolico", and a great version of Fischer's excellent "Morning", one of his best and most-recorded compositions!  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A great little record – a heck of a lot nicer than Tito's work in the 50s, with a much more hard driving mambo sound, touched by a bit of jazz. The style here's not dissimilar to Tito Puente's work at the time – and titles include "Ay No No No", "A Little Bit Of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Best Of The Lot
Fiesta, 1958. Very Good
We've never known anything about these guys other than their few albums for the Fiesta label, but they're a great little combo with a heavy piano sound! Nina Simone

Emergency Ward!
RCA, 1972. Near Mint-
A great little album cut by Nina Simone during the time she was working with Weldon Irvine – a live album that really has the lady stretching out, and showing off all the cool, complicated grooves she brought to a concert setting! Weldon did the arrangements, and they've got a very righteous ... LP, Vinyl record album

Mercury, 1958. Very Good-
The title's a bit of a joke – because the record features a batch sidemen from the Count Basie band – Thad Jones, Joe Newman, Freddy Green, Billy Mitchell, Frank Foster, and others – all working with Sarah, but the Count's name is missing, due to contractual obligations!
