Prez

LP (Item 4242) RCA, Late 50s — Condition: Very Good+
Temporarily Out Of Stock

LP, Vinyl record album

✈
❔
One of Perez Prado's classics, with a side of Latin stuff and a side of jazz stuff – all played by Prado's classic group. Tracks include "Maria Bonita", "Machaca", "Marta", "Fireworks", "Leo's Special", and "Lullaby Of Birdland". Good 50's Mambo, in the same vein as a lot of the other Latin LPs on RCA at the same time.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mono pressing with deep groove. Cover has light tape remnant on all seams, light aging.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

RCA, 1961. Near Mint-
Forget the white dudes on the cover – as the set's a very hip one from Perez Prado – featuring a hard new groove in "La Chunga" – and other nice originals too! LP, Vinyl record album
RCA, 1963. Very Good+
One of the best entries in RCA's classic "our man in..." series – and a nice one by Perez that has him breaking the format of his other releases for the label. In this one, he hits a lot of more modern grooves than on his 50's work – and he also introduces the "bongoson&q ... LP, Vinyl record album

Noro Morales

Merengue A La Noro
RCA, Mid 50s. Very Good-
Noro Morales turns his rich talents to a set of merengue tracks – but the style's a lot different than you'd expect from the later sound of the genre! Instead, these cuts have a sly sinister sound, with kind of a snakey approach that adds a nice element to the music, and which keeps things ... LP, Vinyl record album

King Plays Some Aces
RCA, 1958. Very Good+
A set recorded by RCA in 1958 – featuring a few new numbers, plus a number of classics, redone by Cugie in a nice jazzy style that we like better than his earlier work! Sid Ramin did a few arrangements for the record – and titles include "Mambo No 5", "Baia", "G ... LP, Vinyl record album

RCA, 1959. Very Good+
Not a Fred Astaire vocal record – and instead some very groovy Latin material recorded under his name! LP, Vinyl record album
RCA, 1956. Very Good+
Great stuff by Noro – featuring his haunting piano lines spun out over spare backing by percussion only, in a manner that you don't always find on his other recordings. A few tracks have larger orchestrations, but they're still pretty darn tight, and have a great hard sound to them. The set' ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pablo Beltran Ruiz

El Baile Del Ano
RCA, 1967. Very Good-
Although Pablo Beltran Ruiz is better known for more traditional material, this groovy album from the 60s has him moving through a great batch of 60s pop and Latin tracks – and it's got a wonderful lively sound! The album kicks off with a great instrumental version of Joe Cuba's "El ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fania All-Stars

Rhythm Machine
Columbia/Fania, 1977. Very Good+
One of the proudest moments of the New York Latin underground – a time when some of its best players wound up playing for Columbia, through a brief affiliation between Fania and the larger label!
