Ramsey and the classic trio with Eldee Young and Red Holt – grooving away on a pot luck batch of tunes that includes material from a wide wide variety of sources, all turned into soul jazz magic by the boys! Believe it or not, Ramsey takes tunes like "Andaluza", "Arrividerci ... LP, Vinyl record album
An excellent collection of work by Ramsey – featuring his late Cadet sides, often arranged by Charles Stepney, and often featuring some sweeeeet electric piano and a nice touch of funk! The package includes many great numbers – such as "Ode", "Spanish Grease", " ... LP, Vinyl record album
Easily one of Ramsey Lewis' most successful records – featuring the hit soul jazz style that he forged with the Young/Holt rhythm combo, honed to perfection before a live crowd at The Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach. The record's a key part of Ramsey's live recorded output – showing the ... LP, Vinyl record album
A set of classic Ramsey Lewis recordings with his trio of Eldee Young and Redd Holt, all of which were recorded during the 60s for Argo/Chess, but not released until this set in 1972. The tracks all came from the same live set that spawned the group's hit single version of "Hang On ... LP, Vinyl record album
A collection of Ramsey's work on Cadet/Argo that focuses mostly on the groovy uptempo tracks from the mid 60s – when Lewis had cracked the pop instrumental charts with soulful versions of bigger hits. Titles include "The In Crowd", "Function At The Junction", "Soul ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of our favorite Ramsey Lewis albums ever – and a perfect summation of the genius that was brewing on the Chicago scene in the late 60s and early 70s! The album has Ramsey working strongly with Earth Wind & Fire – no surprise, given his close ties to Maurice White, who was the ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great little Shirley Scott album – perhaps her best for Cadet! Unlike the others, which have a complicated set of arrangements, this one has a stripped-down jazz funk feel that reminds us a lot of the classic early 70s groovers on Prestige Records. Shirley plays some very nice lines on ... LP, Vinyl record album
In Chicago, the cult of Bird fanatics probably lived harder than in other cities – and in the few decades after Charlie Parker's death, the city was host to annual Bird Memorial concerts during the month of August. This obscure 2LP set on Cadet does a good job of documenting the energy and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Chicago alto player Bunky Green gets "Latinized" – in a very groovy set of soul jazz tunes from the 60s Cadet Records scene! The style isn't entirely straight Latin – more just a soul jazz approach to small combo jazz, supported with great percussion from a trio of added ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great album from Willis Jackson – a real sleeper, and with a very groovy feel! Willis smokes with an organ combo that has Butch Cornell at the keys, and which also features Vince Corrao on guitar and Franklyn Robinson on trumpet. The tracks are a mix of originals and Beatles covers ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the great little organ combo albums that Odell Brown recorded with his crack group The Organ-Izers for Cadet. LP, Vinyl record album
One of the best of Odell Brown's groovy organ jazz albums for Cadet from the late 60's. His groovy little combo – which features Artee "Duke" Payne on sax, Tommy Purvis on tenor, Phil Upchurch on bass, and Master Henry Gibson on conga – grooves nicely through short "combo ... LP, Vinyl record album
