Sound Of Wilson Pickett

LP (Item 42011) Atlantic, 1967 — Condition: Very Good
The sound of Wilson Pickett is the sound of soul – bursting out here proudly in a classic session that features production from Rick Hall and the Fame Studios team! The record's got a gritty, nitty kind of feel that easily makes it one of Wilson's best – and with backing that includes Chips Moman on guitar, Spooner Oldham on piano and organ, and Roger Hawkins on drums, Pickett could almost sit the record out. But instead of taking it the easy way, he even outdoes the combo with a really hard-wailing performance of his own! Titles include the great 2 part take on "I Found A Love (parts 1 & 2)", plus "Mojo Mama", "I Found The One", "I'm Sorry About That", "Love Is A Beautiful Thing", "Soul Dance Number 3", "Funky Broadway", and "I'm Sorry About That".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mono red & purple label pressing. Includes Atlantic inner sleeve. Cover has a hype sticker, tiny cutout hole, and looks nice overall.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Atlantic, Late 50s. Very Good
A collection of Ray's incredible work for Atlantic during the late 50s – a mixture of hard grooving R&B tunes and more jazz-based mellower numbers, all done in that stripped-down raw style he was using at the time, one that was a lot harder than his later work for ABC. Sweet Inspirations

Sweets For My Sweet
Atlantic, 1969. Very Good+
Wonderful soul by one of the best female groups of the 60s! Bootsy's Rubber Band

This Boot Is Made For Fonk-N
Warner, 1979. Sealed
Bootsy's still keeping the P-Funk flag flying high at the end of the 70s – arguably stepping out here with a sound that's got more of the Parliafunkadelicment elements intact than some of George Clinton's other spinoff groups! The tracks are long, and plenty jamming – still with plenty ... LP, Vinyl record album
