Physical Attraction

LP (Item 418587) Sound Town, 1984 — Condition: Sealed

A really nice little album from J Blackfoot – one that's recorded with a few 80s touches, but in a way that mostly preserves the sweetly crackling style that makes his vocals so wonderful! There's plenty of mellower tunes here that echo with the rich contribution that Blackfoot brought to the Soul Children – that style of earnest, honest, yet never overdone southern soul singing that only he and a small handful (maybe Sam Dees or Jimmy Lewis) could do that well. Tunes include some good obscure numbers and a few classics, with titles that include "Hiding Place", "Girl Next Door", "Don't Stop", "I Don't Remember Loving You", "Don't You Feel It Like I Feel It", and "You Got Me Hummin".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

J Blackfoot

U Turn
Edge, Early 80s. Sealed
A mix of styles that has his roots in the Memphis scene getting a bit of an 80s production touch, sometimes a bit too tinny to sound great, and others rolling into more comfortable territory with a warmer feel. Homer Banks wrote and produced most of the record – and titles include "Sunsh ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hell
Polydor, 1974. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
JB's wildest album, with a crazy cover that shows him running away from the devil, and great gatefold inner photo with him standing amidst a bunch of declarations of "Hell". Soul Vibration
All Platinum, 1972. Very Good+
A very weird record – and one of the most compelling albums ever cut by organ whiz Dave Baby Cortez! Out Among 'Em
Roulette, 1975. Very Good+
A sweet set of 70s Latin Disco – less Afro-Cuban than you might expect, but a great illustration of the way that older Latin modes had filtered down to more mainstream dancefloors at the time! There's definitely still some Latin elements in the mix – but the set's also got Michael ... LP, Vinyl record album

Amazing work from Kool & The Gang – from a period when they were pushing past their tight early funky sound, into a super-dope mix of electronics and spacey jamming that is still pretty darn revolutionary today! Cadet, 1969. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of The Dells' best albums from this period – and a real Cadet studios masterpiece, thanks to some incredibly groovy arrangements by Charles Stepney! Excellent work from Frankie Beverly and Maze! Marvin Gaye Live!
Tamla, 1974. Very Good+ Gatefold
A wonderful 70s live album from Marvin Gaye – a set that was as expansive, ambitious, and sophisticated as his studio work from the time! Blue Note, 1968. Very Good Gatefold
The quintessential sound of late 60s Horace Silver – on one hand still very much in the Blue Note soul jazz groove that earned him plenty of jukebox single play, but on the other hand really stretching out with a style that's a bit more righteous than before! Horace shows that he can still ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fast Hands
Muse, 1980. Very Good+
A great date from the revival years of Johnny Lytle – his stretch for Muse Records at the end of the 70s, and a bit of a return to his soul jazz roots of the 60s!
