❔
Culled from the rich history of the Atlantic records label, and lovingly put together with great notes and everything! Tracks include "Lowe Groovin", "Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere", & "Applejack" by Joe Morris, "That Old Black Magic", "Annie Laurie", & "Midnight Special" by Tiny Grimes, "Cole Slaw", by Frank Cully, "So Long", "I'll Get Along Somehow", "Daddy Daddy", & "5-10-15 Hours" by Ruth Brown, "One Monkey Don't Stop No Show" & "Drinkin Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee" by Stick Mcghee, "The Chill Is On", "Chains Of Love", & "Sweet Sixteen" by Joe Turner, "Hey Little Girl" & "Mardi Gras In New Orleans" by Professor Longhair, "Fool Fool Fool" & "One Mint Julep" by the Clovers, and "The Midnight Hour" by Ray Charles.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(NOTE – Cover has heavy wear and flaking at the spine with a wide center split, small peeled spots, some surface wear, and bent corners.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Chic

C'est Chic
Atlantic, 1978. Near Mint-
A massive set from the legendary Chic – and a set that has the dancefloor combo coming down perfectly throughout! Riffing Nile Rodgers guitars really make the tunes cook – as does the superb production – and although the record played plenty in discos and radios of the mainstream ... LP, Vinyl record album

Percy Sledge

Take Time To Know Her
Atlantic, 1968. Very Good+
It's hard to imagine a more perfect 60s southern soul album – the legendary vocals of Percy Sledge mixed with classic Muscle Shoals production from Quin Ivy – all wrapped around a host of hip tunes that go way past the easy 60s soul hits! The formula here is similar to that cooked up ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chic

Risque
Atlantic, 1979. Very Good+
Risque is a massive classic from Chic – a record that's worth it alone for the classic cut "Good Times" – a buoyant groover that was instantly timeless upon release, and went on to transform the sound of disco, hip hop, and many other styles to come! The whole thing's great, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Average White Band

Feel No Fret
Atlantic, 1979. Very Good+ Gatefold
A great one that showcases the group's best second suit – their smooth compressed late 70s soul sound – a great evolution of their earlier groove, and one that showed them as a great mainstream soul act! The tunes are a bit mellower overall, but still have a lot of crackle and warmth ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sweet Inspirations

Songs Of Faith & Inspiration
Atlantic, 1968. Near Mint-
The debut album from The Sweet Inspirations – a set that has them billed under the name of Cissy Drinkard & The Sweet Inspirations, before Cissy started using "Houston" as her last name – and a record that still has the group very firmly tied to their gospel roots! Like ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic/SHE, 1979. Near Mint-
Wicked funk from Faze-O – a group who seem even tighter than before on this smoking album – yet still hold onto all the laidback modes that made them so great in the first place! There's a lean quality here that really prefaces the direction so many funk acts would take a few years ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic, 2022. Sealed
Lizzo's reveling in superstardom here – even more forthright and confident than before, on titles that include "About Damn Time", "Grrrls", "I Love You Bitch", "Special", "Break Up Twice", "Naked", "Coldplay", "Birthday ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic, 1968. Near Mint-
What can we say? Booker T and crew are always tops in our book – and this album's as strong a batch of their classic singles as you'll ever find! Book's organ is the sound of a generation, and Steve Cropper's sinister vamping on guitar gives even the poppier tracks a hard edge that still ... LP, Vinyl record album

Aretha Franklin

Live At Fillmore West
Atlantic, 1971. Very Good+ Gatefold
A completely cooking little live set from Aretha Franklin – and a crowning moment not just in her career, but for Atlantic Records soul in general! Aretha's working here before a very enthusiastic crossover crowd at the Fillmore West in San Francisco – getting tight backing from the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Atlantic, 1979. Very Good
The group's past the true glory of their early Philly days, but they are still working here with Thom Bell – who's keeping up the strident groove approach that always worked well with the group's harmonies. Includes the tracks "One Man Wonderful Band", "Once You Fall In ... LP, Vinyl record album

Blue Magic

Blue Magic
Atco, 1974. Very Good
The start of a tremendous run from Blue Magic – easily one of the greatest harmony groups of the 70s, a quintet we'd place in a rare class with heavy hitters like The Stylistics or The Moments! The album's smooth and sweet, but never slick – perfectly arranged by the great Norman ... LP, Vinyl record album
Douglas, 1970. Very Good Gatefold
The first album by the second group to call themselves the Last Poets – and as fierce a document of their rich talents as you'll ever find – bursting forth with anger and righteousness at a level as tight as Gil Scott-Heron's first album! The group here is the key second lineup of the ... LP, Vinyl record album
