Turn Back The Hands Of Time/Good Lovin

7-inch (Item 41331) Elka, Mid 70s — Condition: Used

7-inch, Vinyl record

An obscure one – as Otis does a cover of Tyrone Davis' "Turn Back The Hands Of Time", grooving the track along with a sweet style that's got a bit of modern soul, and which has his voice sounding a lot stronger than on some of his Hi recordings. "Good Lovin" is a midtempo number with a vamping groove – and Otis voice is great as he snakes around the sound of the rhythm section!  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Windy C, Late 60s. Very Good-
Stunning single that includes 2 of the best tracks ever by this legendary soul group from Chicago! Written and produced by Curtis Mayfield, and with a sweet group sound that doesn't quit. "Danger!" was also sampled a few years ago, so you're bound to recognize it, too! 7-inch, Vinyl record

"Function" is a weak remake of the Shorty Long track (which we always thought was overrated anyway), but the flipside is a great sweet soul track, with tight east coast harmonies, and a nice mellow sound! 7-inch, Vinyl record
O'Retta, Late 60s. Very Good+
Pre-Brunswick material by The Chi-Lites, arranged and produced by Johnny Cameron – with a sound that's more in keeping with the Chicago group soul sound than some of the group's later, sweeter work. There's a nice doo woppy quality to these cuts – with a late nite sound that's very ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

The Steelers were one of the best Chicago soul groups of the late 60s – but they never really cut an album, and issued only a handful of great singles for different labels. This one's one of their best – and it features nice production by Al Smith and Calvin Carter of Vee Jay fame. ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Capitol, Mid 50s. Very Good
Classic Capitol doo wop, from one of the best groups in the business. "Wisdom Of A Fool" was one of their best tracks, and it's pressed up here on an original purple label single. 7-inch, Vinyl record
A&M, Late 60s. Very Good
Don't know who Tom is, but these are both pretty catchy little hard soul numbers. Both tracks are taken at midtempo – with kind of a jerky Muscle Shoals groove – and "Zip A Dee Doo Dah" is actually a surprisingly great track. It's the big Disney kid's song, but it's done in ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Verve, Mid 60s. Near Mint- 5x7"
One of the coolest Astrud Gilberto rarities we've ever seen – a special promo-only box set, one that fetaures 5 7" singles – all packaged together as a way of pushing Astrud to DJs and promoters in the 60s! The box has cover images from 2 different Verve albums – and titles ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Satellite, Late 60s. Near Mint-
A fantastic single from Monk Higgins! "Mister Luckee" is a spare slow hard-grooving single – an organ/sax groover with a slow dance beat that's a bit like "Madison Time" (complete with calls), but pushed over the top by some wild instrumental soloing on organ, and by this ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Killer Northern soul from Chuck! "Funny Changes" has a snapping, clapping kind of groove that gets going from the get-go!
