More I See You – Call Me

LP (Item 410898) A&M, 1966 — Condition: Near Mint-
Fantastically sweet pop from Chris Montez! Chris had a light little voice that was perfect for the A&M Records approach of the 60s – a style that has him singing gently over arrangements that glide and bounce around with ease, sometimes handled by Herb Alpert, in a breezy sunny LA mode that makes us want to be driving down Highway 101 with the top down, AM radio blasting out all of Chris' early singles at once! Chris' real genius here is the way that he takes standards and pop tunes – and, working with Herb, crafts them into a whole new sound – stripped down, streamlined, and perfect for the 60s! Titles include "One Note Samba", "The More I See You", "Fly Me To The Moon", "The Shadow Of Your Smile", "Call Me", "Hey Baby", and "Little White Lies".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mono tan label pressing. Cover has some ring and edge wear, yellowing from age, and a large stained portion in back.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Condition Notes

If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially if it is release or pressing details, or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sandpipers

Wonder Of You
A&M, 1969. Very Good Gatefold
A record that has the Sandpipers moving even deeper into the heady brew of A&M at the end of the 60s – that unusual, yet always-perfect blend of sounds that the label, and these guys, seemed to do better than anyone else! Tracks are a mix of Brazilian, soundtrack, and sweet easy numbers ... LP, Vinyl record album

Claudine Longet

Colours
A&M, Late 60s. Very Good+
The colors are rich, but gentle too – like a palette of pastels, all sung by the lovely Claudine Longet! The album's got a slightly more mature feel than some of Longet's first for A&M – great Nick DeCaro arrangements that show some of the deeper elements creeping into pop at the ... Sarah Vaughan

In The Land Of Hi Fi
EmArcy, 1955. Near Mint-
A hip album from Sarah Vaughan – one recorded with great jazz backings from Ernie Wilkins, and featuring a young Cannonball Adderley as the main soloist! The addition of Adderley's alto definitely brings a swinging sound to the set – a sense of soul that's even deeper than usual for ... LP, Vinyl record album

Morgana King

Everything Must Change
Muse, 1978. Sealed
Sublime work from Morgana King – a set that continues the unique mellow vocal tradition begun on her Reprise sides of the 60s, and continued strongly well into the 70s on Paramount and other labels. The setting's somewhat spare here – a small group with guitar, electric piano, bass, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Hep (UK), 1982. Near Mint-
A great later effort from the mighty Slim Gaillard – recorded with some hip swinging instrumentation featuring Buddy Tate and Jay McShann that really gets his groove right! We'd pair this perfectly with Slim's 1959 album for Dot – and it's got an excellent tune unheard elsewhere – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Atlantic, 1968. Very Good+
Great Atlantic work from Mose – cut in the early years of his rediscovery by the hippie crowd, but with a tight small combo mode that recalls his classic 50s recordings for Prestige! The group on the set's a trio – with Mose on piano and vocals, Red Mitchell on bass, and Bill Goodwin ... LP, Vinyl record album

Peggy Lee & George Shearing

Beauty & The Beat
Capitol, 1959. Near Mint-
A very nice small combo album from Peggy Lee – singing here with live backings by the George Shearing Quintet, in a style that's very different from a lot of her other work for Capitol! The set's got a slight Latin feel, thanks to George's mix of percussion, vibes, piano, and guitar – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Joy, 1969. Very Good+
Mellow but compelling work from Betty Carter – singing here with the Norman Simmons trio in an album of material pulled from 2 different live dates in 1969. There's a few nice numbers where the group really opens up – and Betty pushes the envelope vocally, in a style that she'd explore ... LP, Vinyl record album

Frank Sinatra

Concert Sinatra
Reprise, 1963. Very Good Gatefold
A real standout from Frank Sinatra's years at Reprise – an album that shows the singer working at the full height of all his vocal and emotional powers! The set's not the live album you might guess from the title – and instead, the "concert" setting means that Nelson Riddle ... LP, Vinyl record album
