Ready For The World

LP (Item 409221) MCA, 1985 — Condition: Very Good+

Classic post-Prince commercial 80s soul! Even though Prince, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and even Andre Cymone are nowhere in sight, this classic 80s LP could just as well have come out of Minneapolis as Flint, Michigan, and we mean that in the best possible way. "Oh Sheila" has deservedly reached classic status, and the rest of the set's just as great, jheri curls and all! Also includes "Tonight", "Digital Display", "Ceramic Girl", "Deep Inside Your Love", "Human Toy", "Slide Over", "Out Of Town Lover" and "I'm The One Who Loves You".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

An amazing step forward for the young Etta James – a singer who was delivering a raw, shouting form of R&B just a few years before – but who here ascends into soul music heaven with her famous work on the album! Al Hudson & The Soul Partners

Happy Feet
MCA, 1979. Very Good
Joyous, bouncy sounds from the legendary Al Hudson – a sweet little set with his Soul Partners group, done in a mode that's right up there with the best music of his One Way combo! The grooves are uptempo, yet are much more rooted in ensemble funk than some of the disco of Al's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Shine On Me
MCA, 1980. Very Good-
A great batch of boogie from One Way – one of the few late 70s funky combos who were especially well suited to make the transition to 80s groove! The sound here is more electric and keyboard-heavy than previous One Way records – but the group's trademark soul-heavy approach to groove ... LP, Vinyl record album

MCA, 1986. Very Good+
A bit one for Patti Labelle in the 80s – a set that crossed over big at the time, but which still has the lady in very soulful territory! Maybe the funkiest album ever cut for the legendary Westbound label in Detroit – and that's saying a lot, given that the company was the initial home to Funkadelic! Buddah, 1970. Very Good
Although this set was issued by Buddah in 1970, it's a great set featuring some of the earliest work that the Five Stairsteps recorded for Curtis Mayfield's Windy C label during the late 60s, under his production talents as well!
