An overlooked gem from Bob Brookmeyer's key modern years – a quartet session for Verve that features great interplay between Bob and guitarist Jim Hall! The album has Brookmeyer both on piano and valve trombone – ostensibly paying tribute to composer Alec Wilder, referenced in the title – but really just stepping out with Hall in the kind of lightly lyrical, highly inventive work that marked some of Jim and Bob's other collaborations from the time. The rest of the group features Bill Crow on bass and Mel Lewis on drums, but the whole thing's relatively spare overall, with mostly Brookmeyer and Hall dominating the proceedings. Titles include 6 Alec Wilder tunes – including "While We're Young", "It's So Peaceful In The Country", "I'll Be Around", and "Who Can I Turn To" – plus the Brookmeyer original "Blues In The Country". © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
