Once Over Lightly

LP (Item 407028) Columbia, Mid 50s — Condition: Very Good+

Jo Stafford guests with Art Van Damme's quintet on this album, keeping things nice and mellow to match the group's icy sound. The set's about as groovy as you can expect from an accordian player, in Van Damme's trademark jazzy style, with haunting breathy instrumentation, and a sound that's incredibly eerie. Titles include "Almost Like Being In Love", "But Not For Me", "Autumn Leaves", "The Lady IS A Tramp", "One For My Baby", "A Foggy Day", and "My Old Flame".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original 6 eye pressing with deep groove. Cover has light staining.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Although Lambert, Hendricks, & Ross started out their career singing vocalese versions of Basie tunes, they do a pretty darn great job here with Ellington – in fact, maybe even better, given the sophistication of the tracks. A very cool album from Noel Coward – a talent you're probably more familiar with as a playwright, but who also happens to be quite the entertainer! Dreamy harmony jazz from the great Hi-Los – one of the hippest groups of the 50s, with a sweet quartet approach similar to The Four Freshmen, and which had a huge effect on pop in the 60s! The tunes on the set feature the group working with Frank Comstock – in an amazing style that ... LP, Vinyl record album
