LP (Item 405726) Elektra/Asylum, 1984 — Condition: Very Good
$0.99 ...

LP

Not a bad little album from Teddy, although not nearly as sublime as his earlier work for Philly International. The record has Pendergrass working with arranger Michael Masser, who also wrote most of the songs on the set (save for one by Luther Vandross) – and the overall feel is pretty mellow, almost in a quiet storm mode, but with a few slightly stepping numbers that deliver a bit of Teddy's old energy. His voice is still great, but the choice of material is a little off – and titles include "Hot Love", "In My Time", "So Sad The Song", "Stay With Me", "Hold Me", "You're My Choice Tonight", and "Love". (Includes the printed inner sleeve.)  © 1996-2016, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Life Is A Song Worth Singing
Philadelphia International, 1978. Very Good
Wonderful work from the early solo years of Teddy Pendergrass! The record's a monstrous mix of mellow soul and sophisticated tunes – one that pushes Teddy way past his earlier role in Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, into mature male soul territory that few others could match! Righteous soul, but with a wicked groove too – a killer set from Aquarian Dream, made even better by some great Norman Connors production! In a way, Aquarian Dream were to Norman Connors what Ramp were to Roy Ayers – in that the group wasn't really that dominated by Connors, but they ... LP, Vinyl record album

A killer side project from Roy Ayers – recorded right around the same time as the Ramp album, but with a different feel over all – proof that the Ayers empire was really exploding at the end of the 70s! A really unique album for Chaka Khan – one in which she teams up with a host of jazz artists to craft a classic-styled set of vocals! Given that Chaka was at the height of her 80s groove solo career at the time of this one, the move is a surprising one – but also a great chance for ... LP, Vinyl record album

A great bit of modern soul – produced by Chuck Jackson, with that wonderful blend of smooth and soul that he brought to all of his best work for Capitol Records at the same time! One of the great albums from Terry Callier's "second chapter" on record – a time when he was working for Elektra Records, and doing work that was a bit straighter soul than before – and also slightly jazzy as well! A weird little record from a weird little group – one who look like they might be a bunch of geri-curl funk fanatics from the image on the back cover, but who come off with a fair bit of rock and new wave influences in their music!
