(€8.32 || £7.35 || ¥1115) (approx.)

Sublime jazzy soul from Creative Source – a group who managed to step way way past their early hits with a sound that's even more sophisticated on later albums! The groove is wonderfully produced by Brad Shapiro, who brings in just a bit of deeper soul to the proceedings, but also manages to work some real magic with the sweet harmonies of the group – in a way that just plain great! Includes the cuts "Singin Funky Music Turns Me On", "Under Your Spell", "There's No Substitute", "Troubled Lady", "Magic", and "I'd Find You Anywhere". (Cover has ring & edge wear, small seam splits, and a piece of clear tape on the top seam.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Migration
Sussex, 1974. Very Good
A great follow-up to the group's first hit LP on Sussex – not nearly as successful chart-wise, but a great display of their unique approach to group soul. The band's a quintet at this point, and their vocals are arranged by Skip Scarborough with that sweet compressed style that he was ... LP, Vinyl record album
Mutha's Nature
Polydor, 1977. Very Good-
A late 70s effort from James, perhaps not as all out funkdafied as the rest of that era's output, but not a total sleeper either, with a few pretty darn funky moments. Includes the tasty cut "If You Don't Give a Doggone About It", done with the JBs, one that has a nice choppy "Doin ... LP, Vinyl record album
Best Of James Brown
Polydor, 1960s/1970s. Very Good
A nice package that covers a good range of King-era material – from early R&B soul numbers, to late 60s early funk tracks. Titles include "Say It Loud", "Sex Machine", "There Was A Time", "Lost Someone", "It's A Man's World", "Popcorn ... LP, Vinyl record album
Polydor, 1979. Very Good-
An oft-overlooked funky soul gem from the incredible Roy Ayers – taking turns with both uptempo material and more smoothed out soul sounds – all done with Roy's trademark jazzy approach to the dancefloor! No Stranger To Love is a sly, and often funky set that deserves to be mentioned ... LP, Vinyl record album
Honky Tonk Angel
Polydor, 1972. Very Good+
Forget the "honky tonk" in the title – because this girl knows how to groove! Ellen McIlwaine's got to be one of the most unique talents of the past 50 years – a skilled guitarist, and great singer – working in a blend of folk, jazz, and soul that lies somewhere between ... LP, Vinyl record album
Polydor, 1973. Very Good+ Gatefold (reissue)
Easily one of the funkiest albums that James Brown ever recorded – and one of his few entries into the blacksploitation genre of the 70s! James really outdid himself for this one – working at a hard burning pace that had the JBs cooking up some killer funk for just about every number ... LP, Vinyl record album

Hell
Polydor, 1974. Very Good- 2LP Gatefold
JB's wildest album, with a crazy cover that shows him running away from the devil, and great gatefold inner photo with him standing amidst a bunch of declarations of "Hell". The record is a double album filled with lots of different styles from James' funky bag. Nicer bits include " ... LP, Vinyl record album
Bionic Boogie
Polydor, 1977. Near Mint-
The first album by Gregg Diamond's Bionic Boogie group – and a cooker of a set that follows strongly from Gregg's previous Hot Butterfly gem! Luther Vandross isn't on board this time around, but the overall groove is still totally great – upbeat, soaring, and put together with a jazzy ... LP, Vinyl record album
Polydor, 1978. Very Good+
The cover says it all: a painting of James, kicking back on a couch with a disco Godfather outfit on, while two topless girls dance in front of him – clearly, the old days are past! Still, despite this trashy effort to be a clubtime player, James still manages to funk things up a bit – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Black Caesar
Polydor, 1973. Near Mint- Gatefold
Damn, is this a great record! The album's not only one of the best blacksploitation soundtracks ever recorded, it's also one of James Brown's funkiest outings of the early 70s! Nearly every cut's a winner, and James gets some very funky help from The JBs, who groove hard on the best instrumental ... LP, Vinyl record album
There It Is
Polydor, 1972. Very Good
Raw power and righteous energy from James Brown – a set that still has all the best funk elements of his longer-form albums of the time, but which also packs an even stronger political message too! The vibe of the record is clear from the image on the cover – the most powerful since ... LP, Vinyl record album
