If You Go Away – Jacques Brel Is Alive & Singing In Paris

LP (Item 40522) Philips, Mid 60s — Condition: Very Good+
Gatefold

An important early release of Brel's best work in the US – titled in a way that references the hit musical based on his songs, and Rod McKuen's butchered translation of "Ne Me Quitte Pas". Fortunately, the album includes the original Brel recording of "Ne Me Quitte Pas", plus the tracks "La Moribond", "Marieke", "La Colombe", "L'Are De La Betise", "La Tendresse", "Les Flamands", and "La Valse A Mille Temps".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(In the heavy gatefold cover – with booklet.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Repackaging of Brel's 1967 LP – featuring some of his lesser known work from the late 60s, set to arrangements by longtime accompanist Francois Rauber. This was Brel's last album before his death, and it's an oft-overlooked piece of work that's fantastically different from his better-known 60's oevre, but also every bit as great as that stuff.
