cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Oscar Peterson pays tribute to the late Nat King Cole – not only on piano, but also with a bit of vocals as well! Given how rarely Oscar sings on record, the album's a real treat – especially as his vocals capture the spirit of Cole surprisingly well – not exactly like Nat, but ... LP, Vinyl record album
A near-lost gem in Oscar Peterson's mid-50s catalog for Verve – and a sparkling set of trio numbers recorded at the Shakespeare Festival in Ontario! Despite the literate setting of the recording, the work's never stuffy or academic – and Peterson swings things mightily with his trio ... LP, Vinyl record album
Kind of a companion to the better-known Sound Of The Trio set recorded at London House – an album that features more material from that date, but issued here without the indication of a live album. The style is still as great as before, though – really cooking work from the classic ... LP, Vinyl record album
Early work from Oscar Peterson – 1952 sessions that originally appeared on 10" album releases, then were issued on this Clef Records set with a cool David Stone Martin cover sketch! The group features Oscar with frequent partner Ray Brown on bass – plus drums from Alvin Stoller ... LP, Vinyl record album
An overlooked 60s gem from Oscar Peterson – one of his great sides for Limelight Records, and possibly the most soulful of the bunch! The group's a trio – with either Sam Jones or Ray Brown on bass, and Louis Hayes on drums – and they've got a really great feel, one that's a bit ... LP, Vinyl record album
A sprightly mid 60s session from the Oscar Peterson Trio – one of the last live recordings from the famous lineup that featured Ray Brown on bass and Ed Thigpen on drums! The performance was captured at the Tivoli Gardens, in Copenhagen – and recorded in an open style that really gets ... LP, Vinyl record album
A pretty well done collection of Stan's best work for Verve from the late 50s and early 60s – packaged in a cover that shows him with his wife and kids! (For some odd reason, many of Stan's albums from the time have him with kids on the front. Was Verve trying to sell him as the "family ... LP, Vinyl record album
A surprisingly wonderful album from Artie Shaw – one that takes his older groove and nicely strips it down for the 50s, and which features some especially great guitar work from Tal Farlow! Other players in the group include Hank Jones on piano, Joe Roland on vibes, Tommy Potter on bass, and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Excellent meeting between 2 mighty talents who rarely recorded together! Oliver Nelson did the arrangements and leads a big band, but the real focus is on Jimmy and Wes' solos, which are given a lot of room to roam in long tracks like "James & Wes", "Night Train", and " ... LP, Vinyl record album
A tremendous little record – one that's greater even than the sum of its three mighty parts! Although we've always felt that some of the "all star" sets on Verve could sometimes be a bit too "easy", we're always very big fans of the few that feature strong performances ... LP, Vinyl record album
