Sam Rivers & Dave Holland Vol 2

LP (Item 40362) Improvising Artists Inc, 1977 — Condition: Near Mint-

Side one, a side-long piece called "Ripples" is a duet with Rivers on flute and Holland on bass. Side two is another long duet, "Deluge", featuring Rivers on piano with Holland on bass again. Both pieces are a bit over 23 minutes apiece.  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Pyramid
Improvising Artists Inc, 1977. Near Mint-

Atlantic, 1973. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of Rahsaan Roland Kirk's last truly fantastic albums – a set that still has all the amazingly messed-up qualities of his best late 60s work – delivered with the honest heart and sense of soul that always make us love his music! The set was recorded for Atlantic in the early 70s, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Note, 1967. Near Mint- Gatefold
A much better record than you'd expect from the somewhat cheesy cover – one of Duke Pearson's funkiest sessions ever, and a hard swinging big band set with a great late 60s feel! The group is all-class all the way – with players that include Pearson, Bob Cranshaw, Mickey Roker, Marvin ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wynder K Frog

Out Of The Frying Pan
United Artists, 1969. Near Mint-
A lost Hammond classic – from organist Mick Weaver, who famously worked with the group Traffic! This set's a lot different than the work he did in that band, though – as the album's all instrumental, and has a quick-stepping, all-soul sound that's a lot like the best Jimmy McGriff ... Richard Groove Holmes

Misty
Prestige, 1966. Near Mint-
One of the biggest hits of the 60s for Richard Groove Holmes – and for good reason too, given the title single of the record! Richard Groove Holmes

Soul Message
Prestige, 1965. Near Mint-
A key album in the career of Richard Groove Holmes – his first session ever for Prestige Records, and the one that yielded the monster crossover hit version of "Misty"! The sound here is much leaner and cleaner than Groove in his Pacific Jazz years – a tight trio approach ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Note, 1960. Near Mint-
Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, recording in the very familiar territory of the Birdland nightclub – in a format that was handled previously by the Blue Note label, but maybe never with a lineup this great! Excellent Artista/Freedom reissue that brings together the full set from Cecil's 1962 performance at Cafe Monmartre. Memories
West 54, 1980. Near Mint-
One of the better records to be released on the short-lived West 54 label, and a US issue of a Japanese session in which Dollar Brand plays solo on a number of tracks of his own composition. Titles include "Township Sunday", "Love Song For Bea", "Carnival", and "G ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Thumb, 1971. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of the greatest solo albums ever issued by Latin jazz trumpeter Luis Gasca – a set that really expands on his debut for Atlantic Records, and which brings in a whole host of early 70s west coast Latin influences! The style here is very laidback and open – a bit like some of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Incredible work from one of the greatest groups of the New York avant scene of the 60s!
