Live in Stockholm 1960

LP (Item 4031) Dragon (Sweden), 1960/1986 — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP Gatefold
Incredible stuff – and a rare meeting of two giant jazz talents you'd never thought would appear on the same stage! The album features a 1960 concert in Sweden – Miles and Sonny upfront, with backing by the trio of Wyton Kelly, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb. Tracks are long, fiery, and a bit dirty (if we can say that in mixed company!) – and titles include "No Blues", "If I Were A Bell", "Walkin", "All Of You", and "On Green Dolphin Street".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover looks great with minimal wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Jimmy Smith

Home Cookin
Blue Note, Early 60s. Very Good
One of the key classics from the Jimmy Smith years at Blue Note Records – a really groundbreaking time for the Hammond organ in jazz, as Jimmy helped take it from backrooms in bars to center stage of jazz with a record like this! The album's about as iconic as you can get for Jimmy at the ... LP, Vinyl record album

McCoy Tyner

Trident
Milestone, 1975. Very Good+
A nice 70s trio side with Tyner's lyrical, spiraling piano lines nicely underpinned by Elvin Jones' polyrhythms and Ron Carter's supple bass. Three Tyner originals: "Celestial Chant", "Elvin (Sir) Jones" and "Land Of The Lonely", plus Trane's "Impressions", ... LP, Vinyl record album

Wynton Kelly

Kelly Blue
Riverside, 1959. Near Mint-
A great little session from Wynton Kelly – one that has him breaking out of the lyrical roots of his trio work, and hitting some harder notes as a leader of a larger hardbop group! The album features Kelly working in both trio and sextet format – the latter with players who include Nat ... LP, Vinyl record album
Prestige, Early 50s. Very Good
One of modern vibes genius Teddy Charles' beautiful haunting albums – full of dark, edgey, playing, augmented by Bob Brookmeyer's contemplative piano and trombone. The deep end of this record is amazing, and the tracks are long, slow, and moody – with odd twists and turns that are a ... LP, Vinyl record album
Blue Note, 1953. Near Mint-
A seminal, yet unusual 50s Blue Note treasure! The album brings together a number of Horace Silver's great trio recordings from the early 50's, most of them with Art Blakey on drums, showing the fluid, rumbling genius that would later make him such a great leader. But the record also includes 2 ... LP, Vinyl record album

Cal Tjader

Soul Sauce
Verve, 1964. Very Good+
Arguably THE classic Cal Tjader album of the 60s – a landmark album that crossed over equally into Latin, jazz, and mainstream audiences – and a stone cooker that's filled with smoking little grooves! The set's probably best known for its title track "Soul Sauce" – one ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

Bags Groove
Prestige, 1954. Near Mint-
Classic Miles Davis from that pivotal year of 1954 – featuring work from 2 different sessions, both of them great! The title track on the album is a key reading of "Bag's Groove", presented here in two versions, both recorded by a quintet that includes Milt "Bags" Jackson ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ben Webster & Joe Zawinul

Soulmates
Riverside, 1963. Near Mint-
An unusual early album by Joe Zawinul – one cut at the start of his early fame with Cannonball Adderley (and years before his success in Weather Report) – but in an easygoing way that's a perfect setting for the aging Ben Webster! Joe's not funking things up the way he did with Cannon, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Red Garland

Nearness Of You
Jazzland, 1961. Near Mint-
A lesser-known post-Prestige album by Red Garland – played in a mellow mode that features plenty of smokey tunes and late nite numbers! The style's certainly more gentle, and almost more tentative, than Red on Prestige – and many numbers have him slowly stepping along the keys of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Gene Chandler

Gene Chandler Situation
Mercury, 1970. Very Good
Killer stuff from Gene! After recording a few sadly overlooked albums for Brunwsick, Gene hit big big big with this killer record on Mercury! The record virtually defines the Chicago soul sound of the late 60s – with arrangements by Tom Tom, production by Gene, and a great loping soul ... LP, Vinyl record album

Timmy Thomas

Touch To Touch
TK/Glades, 1977. Very Good+
A massive groover from Timmy Thomas – really hitting here on all burners, and moving with a groove that's much fuller than the drum machine fills of his early years! The sound is Miami club at its best – wickedly uptempo rhythms that are played with razor-sharp intensity – still ... LP, Vinyl record album
