Do You Love Me (Now That I Can Dance) (reissue compilation)

LP (Item 403014) Motown, 1962/1981 — Condition: Very Good+

An 80s collection of the hits off of one of the earliest albums on Motown – featuring some killer hard soul numbers! The Contours have a deeper R&B sound than some of their smoother Motown contemporaries – a great bridge between earlier group soul styles of the 50s, and the Motown modes to come – produced here with some wicked piano and guitar lines that ring out strongly in the middle. Vocals are wonderfully raspy – often peaking out into the red as they reach for a lead lyric – and titles include the classic "Do You Love Me" – plus "Shake Sherrie", "Just A Little Misunderstanding", "Whole Lotta Woman", and "It's So Hard Being A Loser".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(German pressing. Cover has light wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Commodores

In The Pocket
Motown, 1981. Near Mint-
An album that definitely lives up to the title promised by The Commodores – a record that takes all their raw funky energy of the early years, and fuses it into a new groove that would catapult the sextet to superstardom! Smokey Robinson & The Miracles

Tears Of A Clown
Motown, 1967. Very Good
About as classic as you can get for late 60s Miracles! Smokey's vocals are in perfect form, and the group still has that 60s falsetto harmony sound, with lots of fragile bits and strong group backing. Includes the huge hit "Tears Of A Clown", plus a motherlode of great originals that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jermaine Jackson

Feel The Fire
Motown, 1977. Near Mint-
Jermaine's going the way of most of Motown at this point – popping the bass pretty heavily, and grooving in a smooth funky mode. The cuts that go too over the top with the funky stuff definitely lose us – but there's a few decent mellow soul tracks that redeem the album, and which keep ... LP, Vinyl record album

J Blackfoot

U Turn
Edge, Early 80s. Sealed
Not as strong as some of Blackfoot's other solo work – a mix of styles that has his roots in the Memphis scene getting a bit of an 80s production touch, sometimes a bit too tinny to sound great, at others rolling into more comfortable territory with a warmer feel. Homer Banks wrote and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Physical Attraction
Sound Town, 1984. Sealed
A really nice little album from J Blackfoot – one that's recorded with a few 80s touches, but in a way that mostly preserves the sweetly crackling style that makes his vocals so wonderful! There's plenty of mellower tunes here that echo with the rich contribution that Blackfoot brought to ... LP, Vinyl record album

Yes, it was a mega-hit – and yes, it was one of those records that everyone who lived through the 70s seemed to own at one time – but after all these decades, you can't deny the power of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack – especially for the way that it mixed club soul classics ...
