Living On The Edge

LP (Item 40249) Black Saint (Italy), 1989 — Condition: Very Good+
Also available
Dewey Redman Quartet — Living On The Edge ... CD 9.99

The album's got a bit of an odd title – as we hardly think that Redman was living on the edge at the time – but it's also a great little set, no matter what the name! Dewey's playing in a soulful and inside mode on most tracks – working in a style that recalls some of Archie Shepp's work of the late 70s – in a group with Geri Allen on piano, Cameron Brown on bass, and Eddie Moore on drums. The set list features Redman originals – including "Boo Boodoop", "Mirror Windows", "Blues for J.A.M.", and "As One" – plus versions of "If I Should Lose You" and Coltrane's "Lazy Bird".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Blue Note, 1971. Very Good+
Genius, pure genius! A sublime bit of Miles Davis electric funk – one of the best-remembered electric sets from the 70s, and for good reason too! Miles Davis

Water Babies
Columbia, 1967. Very Good+
A much different album than you might expect from the cover – hardly the funky 70s set implied by the Big Fun-styled cover – and instead a lost slice of work from his groundbreaking late 60s years! Way nicer than some of Milt's earlier work – and one of the gems he recorded with bassist Ray Brown during the late 60s.
