Juju Jubilee

LP (Item 401862) Shanachie, 1985 — Condition: Near Mint-

We have to be honest, we know a little bit about African music, but not a lot. So when we came across a small stack of African records, we scooped them up and put them online, but rather than insult those of you out there who know and love this stuff, we're just listing them at a nice price without trying to describe them, and are confident you fans of the real deep African grooves will be able to know what you're looking at. We do know that CC Ebenezer Obey is second only to King Sunny Ade in Nigerian Ju Ju, and this sets a fine collection of chirping guitars and talking drum laden grooves, 8 of them in all: "Awa Ewe Iwoyi", "E Ma Se Lo", "A Fi Eni Oluwa Koyo", "Ohun Oju Ri Laiye", "Asiko Mi Ti To", "Ko Easy lati Je Omo Okunrin", "Oro Alafia" and "Oro Mi Ti Davo".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Still in the shrink with hype sticker.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Middle Eastern Rock
Verve, 1969. Very Good
Don't think "rock", think "groove" – because oud player John Berberian takes his instrument into some very groovy territory here – mixing its Mid-East roots with a sweet array of modal rhythms and psychedelic elements – all of which make for an album that's ... LP, Vinyl record album

A jazzy combo from the Caribbean – led by a singer who also plays some really wonderful vibes!
