Southern Girl/I Want To Thank You

12-inch (Item 40154) Capitol, 1980 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

12-inch, Vinyl record

Two excellent mid 70s numbers from Maze! "Southern Girl" is one of the group's big hits – and for good reason, as it's a killer modern soul number with a hook that won't quit. Equally great, though, is "I Want To Thank You", a smooth mellow number with the kind of slinky sound that Frankie Beverly always did so well! (White label promo. Label has a sticker spot.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Capitol, 1982. Very Good
The rap version of George Clinton's "Atomic Dog", basically George Clinton Jr rapping over the tracks to Atomic Dog, and with the single's orignal, uptempo b-side, too! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Total Experience, 1982. Near Mint-
A great bass-heavy groover from The Gap Band – pulled off one of their best albums ever, Gap Band IV! The cut's got some really great funky bits on the bottom – acoustic piano wrapped around some more electric rhythms, in a blend that keeps the track as soulful as it is catchy! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Fantasy, 1978. Very Good+
Hardly a disco tune from Side Effect – and instead a nicely jazzy bit of club, served up in the best Wayne Henderson-directed mode of the group's Fantasy years! The tune's got a brassy finish that goes well with the lyrics – and it's backed by the even-better "I'm A Winner", ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

What can we say? Despite the stupid appearance of the band, "White Horse" was a classic breakdance/electro track that crossed over so big it had kids in Kansas running out to by parachute pants and squares of linoleum to play along with the kids in the Bronx. One Love/Superman
TK, 1977. Very Good+
A guilty pleasure! Celi Bee's "Superman" has to be one of the campiest disco cuts of the 70s, but heck, we just love it! The cut's a loving breathy ode to the man in blue – laid out over some compelling dancefloor beats and a pretty funky groove! Single also features the original ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
