Classic RCA work from the great Nina Simone – and an album that definitely shows Nina hitting more of the soul spectrum than some of her folk and jazz work of the 60s! The set's got these wonderful arrangements from Harold Wheeler – a bit electric, and done in a way that takes familiar tongs and completely recasts them for Nina's own vibe – a way of shifting the sense of spirit to unlock a special Simone-like quality you never would have expected in the tunes from anyone else! Titles include a great version of "Ooh Child", plus "Just Like A Woman", "Here Comes The Sun", "New World Coming", and "My Way". And the set also features Weldon Irvine's own composition, "How Long Must I Wander?" (Cover has some wear & aging.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Right On!
Roker, Early 70s. Very Good
We're not entirely sure when this set was recorded, but Stroud Productions put the whole thing together, and it's a hard live set that seems to be from the early 70's. Nina's voice is in fine form, and she drives the crowd with hard hitting renditions of tracks like "House Of The Rising ... LP, Vinyl record album

Nina Simone & Piano!
RCA, 1969. Very Good
A strong back to basics session for Nina, one that featured her piano and vocals only, a very spare approach that was markedly different from her work a few years previously for other labels. Groovy groovy vocalese – featuring the group formed by Dave Lambert and Jon Hendricks after they were deserted by Annie Ross. A surprisingly great little Latin set from Rosemary Clooney – one that makes us want to forgive her for all her pop takes on the genre in the early 50s!
