Timeless Heart

LP (Item 393876) Timeless (Netherlands), 1983 — Condition: Near Mint-

Masterful work from one of the greatest all-star groups in jazz – a short lived sextet that featured some of the best players working for Timeless Records – and a group that recalls the brilliance of the early recordings of Harold Land and Bobby Hutcherson! Both Hutcherson and Land are part of the group – as are Cedar Walton, Curtis Fuller, Buster Williams, and Billy Higgins – and the amazing thing about the set is the way that such top-shelf players can come together, yet manage to work in a mode that's far greater than the sum of its equally great parts! The sound here is nothing like you'd expect from an "all star" session – as the tunes are complicated, intricate, and have an approach that's far different than the "head arrangement with battling solos" that first marked all star jazz recordings in years back. These six players come together with a wonderfully fluid groove – sliding soulfully in the realms explored by Hutcherson, Land, Walton, and Higgins on their own records from the time – and working through magical readings of original tunes that include "Hindsight", "Tayamisha", "Hand In Glove", "Fiesta Espagnol", "World Peace", and "Christina".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Soft Focus
Timeless (Netherlands), 1976. Near Mint-
An album led by guitarist Rick Laird, but a set that's probably equally noteworthy for the presence of tenorist Joe Henderson on a few tracks – who really shines here in an overlooked late 70s session! The core group is great enough – as Laird has these round, classic jazz guitar tones ... LP, Vinyl record album

A great bit of 70s electric work from Quincy – and probably his funkiest album ever!
