One of those under-the-table sessions that Gene Ammons cut for Argo when he wasn't supposed to be recording for anyone but Prestige – and a great album that never got full circulation because of contract difficulties. The group on the album features organist Eddie Buster, who'd backed Jug or Stitt in other settings from the same time – and it's a hard grooving record that figures with some of Ammons' best early 60s work on record. The "just" part probably means that Sonny Stitt doesn't join in on tenor on the record – which is fine by us, because Ammons grooves hard in the album's live recorded setting. Titles include "PM AM", "Fast Track", "Foot Tappin", and "Scrapple From The Apple". © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
