Suspiria

LP (Item 392130) Cinevox (Italy), 1977 — Condition: Sealed
Gatefold

One of the wildest 70s soundtracks by the Italian horror genius group Goblin – filled with a lot of weird distorted electronics, strangely recorded percussion, and oddly-tuned guitar parts and basslines! The overall feel still has the band's electric slightly funky sound firmly in place, but the presence of strange techniques makes the soundtrack one of their most interesting records – a really compelling chapter that also links their groundbreaking style to later genius from an 80s generation of composers! Claudio Simonetti plays lots of cool keyboards – from organ to moog to mellotron, mini moog, and more – and titles include "Suspiria", "Sighs", "Witch", "Black Forest", "Blind Concert", and "Death Valzer".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Recent reissue on AMS. Shrinkwrap is torn in back at the top.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Legendary Italian prog combo Goblin – reunited in the studio on the cusp of their 2013 tour – and sounding as vital as ever! Der Schwarze Korsar (Il Corsaro Nero)
Cinevox/Decca (Germany), 1976. Near Mint-
A groovy 70s pirate film score – written by the brothers De Angelis with some great exotic touches! Given that there weren't a heck of a lot of pirate films in the 70s, you might be hard pressed to guess the sound of this one – so let us say that it's got kind of a Euro-exotic feel ... That Man In Istanbul
Mainstream, Mid 60s. Near Mint-
Groovy soundtrack for this 60's international intrique film starring a young Horst Bucholz. Georges Garvarentz wrote and directed the music, with the sort of flair that he brings to the best of projects like these. The stuff's not as funky as his 70's stuff, but it's got a lot of nice moments, ... LP, Vinyl record album

A fairly straight orchestral score by John Barry – written for this early 60s film that starred George Segal, Tom Courneay, and Denholm Elliott. The cover to this one advertises the more famous names that do tracks for the album – like Mountain, Delaney & Bonnie, and others – but the best tracks here are those by the great arranger Jimmy Bowen, who turns out some excellent complicated funky numbers that have a bit of a hippy ... Last Valley

Quite a shift for John Barry – not the usual groovy music you might expect, and instead a somewhat serious score written for this historical epic written and directed by James Clavell, starring Omar Sharif and Michael Caine! A western soundtrack – but one that's groovier than you might expect, given that the music was done by Quincy and Jose!
