One of the greatest cuts ever by this obscure west coast funk combo – and part of a huge controversy as to who was the original group to cut the song "Hole In The Wall"! The track begins with a slow thumping conga groove, marching along through crowd noises as piano triplets sneak into the mix, stomping around as regular drums come in, while some guitar lays licks over the top like pick up sticks! "Go Head On" is in a similar mode – faster, with a harder groove and a bit of organ, but equally nice!  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Daran, Early 70s. Near Mint-
Excellent trippy instrumentals from Chicago! "The Vamp" has some great chromatic guitar – a bit like Cal Green, with touches of Wes Montgomery – over a hard rolling organ on the beat groove. Tasty stuff – the kind of single that would blow the speakers off your jukebox ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Frog/Watch What Happens
A&M, Late 60s. Near Mint-
A very groovy single from Sergio Mendes! "The Frog" is a gem by Joao Donato – also recorded under the name "A Sapo" – and the cut's got a jaunty little groove with a back-forth melody that's totally dreamy, and perfect for the Brasil 66 sound! "Watch What ... 7-inch, Vinyl record

Josie, Late 60s. Very Good
Classic funky soul from The Meters! "Sophisticated Cissy" was a follow-up to "Cissy Strut", and it's got the same tight grooves as that one – and some great Meters guitar! "Sehorns Farms" is another Meters classic – and the single's the kind of double-head ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
