Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so.
These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play,
but might detract from the looks.
May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be
intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under
the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record.
(Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
Possible minor surface noise when played.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
A real charmer from singer Betty Madigan – and a set that's got a bit more flourish than you might expect from the image on the cover! Madigan's a singer who's clearly got a great range to her voice, and a technique that allows for sustained notes that hold on strongly – but the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Beautiful work from the legendary Hoagy Carmichael – and one of the few albums to feature him singing his own work! Hoagy's name is one that you're more likely to see in the songwriting credits than in the artist slot for a record – but he's actually got a wonderful voice, one that's ... LP, Vinyl record album
A delightful album of vocal renditions of Duke's tunes by little known singer Eugenie Baird. Baird's wonderfully relaxed takes on these great Ellington tunes begs the question of how she remained sidelined for so many years, and then went on to largely be forgotten except for a spell with Bing ... A jazz vocal masterpiece from Sarah Vaughn – one of her greatest albums ever, and a record that raised the bar for countless vocal sessions in years to come! Sarah's working here in an intimate group arranged by Ernie Wilkins, and featuring some sublime solo work from Clifford Brown, Paul ... LP, Vinyl record album
Arrangements by Dave Martin – for an early appearance by this hip soulful singer! Titles include "The Children", "Mighty One", "Mr Mountain", "Ku Ku Ba", "Have A Child", and "Snow White Gown". LP, Vinyl record album
A warmly crafted vocal session from Lee Wiley – very spare, with a no-nonsense approach that makes the record one of her best of the 50s. The backing group's a quartet led by pianist Jimmy Jones, and it also includes Ruby Braff on trumpet, who gives the tracks a moody sound that works very ... LP, Vinyl record album
No doubt about it – these guys are groovy! Groovy like Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66 – with a sweet male/female harmony vocal style, applied here to a mixture of bossa nova tunes and 60s pop numbers, recorded in Mexico by this Swedish combo, with a sound that would make A&M weep! ...
