❔
Was there a sexier 70s celebrity than Joey Heatherton? It's hard to think so – and while we certainly remember her from countless variety show appearances at the time, it's actually a bit hard to remember her as a singer (something that's due, no doubt, to the fact that we were so busy looking – not listening!) The set was done in a sexy sort of 70s pop mode – slight country touches on a few tunes, but mostly glistening adult-styled backings from the team of Tony Scotti and Tommy Oliver. Tunes include "God Only Knows", "It's Not Easy", "Right Or Wrong", "I'm Sorry", "Gone", "Say Hello", and "Someone To Watch Over Me".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(White label promo. Cover has a DJ sticker, light wear, and a small trace of a price sticker.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Page Morton

May You Always
MGM, 1961. Near Mint-
Page Morton's floating in a sea of red on the cover of this rare album – and the music has her swimming in a similarly watery style too! Arrangements are handled by Leo Addeo – who you might know from late 50s tropical and exotica sides – and although his approach here is more in ... LP, Vinyl record album

Eartha Kitt

Bad But Beautiful
MGM, 1962. Very Good+
A record that's sometimes overlooked in the career of the legendary Eartha Kitt – a set that came out on MGM in the early 60s, after Kitt's initial rise to fame on RCA, and before taking off for a long stretch overseas! The set hints at the sound of that era a bit – and arrangements by ... LP, Vinyl record album

Shirley Horn

Embers & Ashes
Stereocraft, 1960. Very Good+
An early album by Shirley, and a haunting batch of lonely songs of lost love that has Shirley singing with her trio of Joe Benjamin and Herb Lovelle. The material's very much in keeping with the "classic" sound that's been so popular during her recent revival, and the record stands as ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sammy Davis Jr & Laurindo Almeida

Sammy Davis Jr Sings – Laurindo Almeida Plays
Reprise, 1966. Very Good+
The closest thing Sammy D ever came to cutting a bossa album – and a lovely batch of fragile tunes that feature no other instrumentation save for the guitar of Laurindo Almeida. Almeida plays acoustic guitar on the album, in a gentle style that supports Sam's rich voice as it works through a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Waltz For Debby (Audio Clarity)
Philips, 1964. Sealed
One of the greatest albums ever cut by Swedish vocalist Monica Zetterlund – a landmark album that has her singing with the Bill Evans Trio! The album was recorded in 1964, with a spare sound that's quite different from most of Monica's other work. As usual, her vocals are wonderfully cool ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sarah Vaughan takes on the work of Duke Ellington – almost presented here in a style that's similar to some of the Songbook albums on Verve from the 50s! Ernestine Anderson

When The Sun Goes Down
Concord, 1985. Very Good+
A great cooker from the glory days of Ernestine Anderson on Concord Records – a time when the singer was rediscovered, and revamped in a bit of a bluesy mode – reaching a wide new audience at the time!
