Stevie Wonder's Greatest Hits Vol 2

LP (Item 39087) Tamla, 1971 — Condition: Very Good+
A sweet set of late 60s groovers – some of Stevie's best work for Motown, and proof that even at a young age, his talents were rich enough to warrant a second volume of greatest hits! Titles hardly need introduction – as the album includes classics like "Heaven Help Us All", "My Cherie Amour", "Shoo Be Doo Be Doo Da Day", "Signed Sealed Delivered", "For Once In My Life", "If You Really Love Me", and "Yester Me, Yester You, Yesterday".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mid 70s issue.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Miracles

Power Of Music
Tamla, 1976. Near Mint-
The power of music is strong indeed for the Miracles – really opening up here with some wonderful mid 70s harmonies, and working in a smooth California soul style that brings out the best in their vocals! The tracks are mellow to midtempo – a perfect pace for the group at this point ... LP, Vinyl record album

Smokey Robinson & The Miracles

Special Occasion
Tamla, 1968. Very Good+
Smokey and the group do a great job on some lesser-known numbers – all presented with that wonderful warm polish that The Miracles brought to soul, a sound that's always great, even on a lesser-hit album like this! Titles include "Give Her Up", "Special Occasion", "Ye ... LP, Vinyl record album

Smokey Robinson & The Miracles

Pocket Full Of Miracles
Tamla, 1969. Very Good+
A great one by The Miracles! Smokey and the group are clearly pushing the envelope here – stretching out for a deeper harmony sound, moving towards some of the smoother styles they'd use a bit more in the 70s. The result is a slightly-confused album, but one with some really interesting ... LP, Vinyl record album

Smokey Robinson

Smokey's Family Robinson
Tamla, 1976. Near Mint-
Smokey's Family Robinson finds Smokey exploring rather than simply setting out to continue riding the waves made by Quiet Storm. There's bits of dancefloor funk, pared down keyboard soul, spacey jams and a sweet ballad or two – all with Smokey's soul strirring vocals in peak form. Titles ... LP, Vinyl record album

Smokey Robinson & The Miracles

Flying High Together
Tamla, 1972. Near Mint-
Excellent 70s work by Smokey and crew – sort of their way of showing the emerging east coast vocal stars how much talent they still had! The record has a sweet, slightly modern sound – with an approach that hints at Smokey's later Quiet Storm sound, but maybe a bit more laidback ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marvin Gaye

Moods Of Marvin Gaye
Tamla, 1966. Very Good+
The moods of Marvin Gaye are many, even at this early point in his career – as the set has the young Marvin really taking off strongly – hitting hard on classic Motown groovers, but also showing a sensitive side at times too! The album kicks off with some killer rhythms on cuts like ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lakeside

Fantastic Voyage
Solar, 1980. Very Good- Gatefold
A crowning achievement from Lakeside – one of the key albums to link Ohio funk roots with a smoother LA groove – all served up in a way that had limitless influence for years to come! Bass is definitely at the head of these arrangements, but there's plenty of great guitar too – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Cadet, 1972. Very Good
Forget Dionne Warwick, and think Burt Bacharach – because on this sublime little set, The Dells are singing some of Burt's greatest tunes ever – all set to impeccable arrangements by the legendary Charles Stepney! Bobby Womack

Facts Of Life
United Artists, 1973. Very Good
Bobby Womack at the height of his powers – perfectly balancing southern soul roots and 70s soul polish – with an amazing sound that was unlike anyone else at the time! Ohio Players

Honey
Mercury, 1975. Very Good Gatefold
A legendary album from The Ohio Players – a set that's famous not just for its sexy cover, but for the way the group managed to set a whole new standard for mainstream funk at the time! The group started out in the farther reaches of the Midwest underground, and previously had brought some ... LP, Vinyl record album
Hansa, 1978. Very Good- Gatefold
A nice bit of space age disco fantasy from Boney M – a set that's got a few more electronic touches than some of the group's other records, but which still continues in a straight ahead poppy vein! There's a sound here that's arguably a bit more sophisticated than before – especially ... LP, Vinyl record album

Sly & The Family Stone

Small Talk
Epic, 1974. Near Mint-
Sly's still doing pretty nice for himself in 1974 – with a sound that's perhaps a bit warmer than on the early records, but still nice and soulful – and peppered with a good dose of funk! The groove is really great on the set – bubbling with a more "deep down" feel than ... LP, Vinyl record album
