Belle Album

LP (Item 3907) Hi Records, 1977 — Condition: Very Good+
Originally: 11.99
Also available
Al Green — Belle Album (with bonus download) ... LP 16.99
Al takes over the whole deal with this one – as the record features him writing, producing, arranging, and even playing lead guitar – stepping out from under the protective wing of Willie Mitchell, and doing a surprisingly great job overall! Al does get a bit of help in the studio – from Fred Jordan and Reuben Fairfax, whose names are hidden in smaller type, under the message on the back that says that the record is "something new" – but as we've come to learn from all the other Al Green records we've loved over the years, the man himself is more than enough to make the record wonderful – with vocals that are unbeatable at this point in his career! Titles include "All N All", "Belle", "Loving You", "Georgia Boy", "Feels Like Summer" and "Dream".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original pressing. Cover has light wear and staining, and a split top seam.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A tasty double-live set from Al Green – one that has him working through longer versions of tunes than you'd hear on his studio albums, and really doing great in front of an appreciative Japanese crowd! Heavenly soul doesn't get any more heavenly than this! OV Wright

Bottom Line
Hi Records, 1978. Very Good+
Great work from OV Wright – one of the few singers who was still strongly carrying the Hi Records torch at the end of the 70s! Although Wright had sometimes been bluesier in the past, his late 70s Hi sides have a much mellower, mature sort of feel – a ripening of the seeds in his ... LP, Vinyl record album

Very early grooves from Willie Mitchell – a set that's got a bit more R&B than in Willie's later years – with less trumpet in the mix, and more of an overall punch in the rhythms! Guitar is quite strong on most of these instrumentals – and there's some nice tenor, too – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Our favorite album ever from Tyrone Davis – even if it's completely different than most of his other work too! This Boot Is Made For Fonk-N
Warner, 1979. Very Good
Bootsy's still keeping the P-Funk flag flying high at the end of the 70s – arguably stepping out here with a sound that's got more of the Parliafunkadelicment elements intact than some of George Clinton's other spinoff groups! The tracks are long, and plenty jamming – still with plenty ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stratavarious
Roulette, 1977. Very Good+
A great album of jazzy club tracks – put together by John Usry Jr, who'd done some work with other 70s club acts like Three Degrees, Love Committee, and First Choice.
