East & West Of Jazz

LP (Item 387588) Charlie Parker, 1962 — Condition: Very Good+
An overlooked bit of piano genius from the 60s – a split LP with great work from both artists! Sadik kicks things off with the "east" side of the record – tunes that have a supposedly exotic feel, but which are mostly soul jazz piano groovers – performed by a quartet with Eddie Wright on guitar, Kalil Madi on drums, and Lloyd Buchanon on bass. Titles are all originals by Hakim, and include "Impulse", "Buch's Blues", "Goodies For The Goodies", and "Little Lou". The "west" side of the album features Duke Jordan leading a quintet with Cecil Payne on baritone sax and Johnny Coles on trumpet – in a mode that's got a similar earthy feel to Payne's own album on the Charlie Parker label. Tunes include "I'm Gonna Learn Your Style", "Tall Grass", "Like Church", and "Yes He's Gone".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Charlie Parker, Early 50s. Very Good+ Gatefold
No real date or personnel on this one, and the album's a live set recorded, most likely, at some time in the 50s.
