Faltando Um Pedaco

LP (Item 38598) EMI (Brazil), Late 70s — Condition: Very Good+
Great work from Djavan – a little early, and with a rougher edge than his later stuff, yet still with all the rich jazzy soul that makes his albums from this time so compelling. The album compiles tracks from the years 1978 to 1980, and most of the work has an approach that puts it firmly in the Lo Borges/Milton Nascimento camp. Titles include "A Ilha", "Serrado", "Nereci", "Cara De Indio", "Alibi", and "Meu Bem Querer".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original pressing, in the die-cut sleeve with heavy inner sleeve. Cover has surface & edge wear.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Live work from the lovely Maysa – a great late 60s set done in a mix of jazz, bossa, and even groovier styles! The recording has a nice sense of the "room" – with spontaneous crowd noise often coming in to spur additional enthusiasm in the music – and Maysa's star power ... LP, Vinyl record album

Luiz Gonzaga Jr (Gonzaguinha)

Gravido
EMI (Brazil), 1984. Very Good+
Luiz Gonzaga Jr in the 80s – not as revolutionary as he once was, and with distinctly modern touches on the keyboards and production, but still relatively compelling overall. A few tracks sound as if they got trapped in a new wave time warp, but overall there's a fairly solid MPB style to ... LP, Vinyl record album

Memorias Cantando

A warmly intimate set of samba tracks with a gentle and almost nostalgic approach. The feel is really great overall, different than some of Paulinho's other 70s work – almost old-timey, but not in a way that's hokey or hackneyed. Titles include "Nova Ilusao", "Perdoa", ... LP, Vinyl record album

The first album by Marisa Monte, and the start of a fantastic run of records – really strong work that had Monte emerging as maybe one of the strongest new acts in Brazil at the time! A great early album by Simone – a set that's very up close and personal – with the sort of intimate feel that we love in music by Joyce! Fab work from one of our favorite organ players of all time – the mighty Walter Wanderley, king of the bossa keyboard, sounding totally great in this early session from 1963!
