Before It Gets Dark/Disco Circus

12-inch (Item 383343) Prelude, 1984 — Condition: Very Good

A wonderful crossover club classic! The track's certainly got enough disco to earn its name – but it's also got these cool dark keyboards, jerking along in a Danceteria style that gives the track a very different twist!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Promo. Label has some marker.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Ya Mama (voc, inst)
Prelude, 1982. Near Mint-
An obscure 80s groover on Prelude! The record has a choppy funk style, with vocals that might be called "rap", but which are more in that sharp spoken style that you find on some New York slick funk records from the time. Most interesting is that James Mason co-produced and wrote the ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

A Prelude classic from The Strikers – served up here in a doubly-mixed version by the team of Francois K and Larry Levan! Great work from Bobby Thurston – one of the funkiest talents on the Prelude label! "You Got What It Takes" features lots of fast guitar – riffing quickly over some boogie basslines that are totally great! "Check Out The Groove" is nice too – similarly funky, ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

Genius, pure genius – and one of our favorite Prelude singles ever! "I Hear Music" is one of those tunes that takes a single track and creates a mini-symphony of groove – starting with a snapping catchy 80s groove sort of mode (one that's clearly inspired by Roy Ayers) – ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

Little Bit Of Jazz/Space Age
Prelude, 1981. Very Good
A classic early 80s groover by Nick Straker – not really as jazzy as you'd expect, but with some nice piano work that hints at use of the instrument in later house singles. "Space Age" is more of an electro track – with vocoded vocals and lots of keyboards. 12-inch, Vinyl record

The deep style of the Chicago mix sound of the 80s goes mainstream in this great little 12" of tracks from Lil Louis!
