First Generation Soul
LP (Item 38307) Buddah/Vee Jay, Early 70s — Condition: Very Good+
Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have
some signs of use (although not major ones).
May have slight surface noise when played.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Nice compilation of tracks that features some fine (and famous) moments from one of our favorite Chicago soul singers, recorded for the Vee Jay label, when they were one of the leading lights on music row. Most of these songs are pretty had to get a hold of on vinyl any more, and though the ... LP, Vinyl record album
After hitting big as a singer on the soundtrack for Claudine, Gladys Knight finally got her chance in front of the camera for Pipe Dreams – a record that featured her both as the star on film and on the soundtrack! The styles here are a bit more wider-ranging than the usual 70s soundtrack of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Soaring soul from The Futures – a Philly group who'd already worked for years in the underground before cracking the racks with this debut LP in 1975 – schooled strongly in their best vocal modes from previous singles, and ready to unleash the best side of their sound on the world! The ... LP, Vinyl record album
A wonderful album from Sly and crew – moving way past the straight funk approach of earlier records, into a complicated crossover soul style that's filled with warmth and righteousness. Despite the political tone implied by the "riot" in the title and the co-option of the American ... LP, Vinyl record album
A tremendous little album from Brainstorm – funky and clubby at the same time – yet delivered with this righteous energy that few of their contemporaries could ever hope to match! There's a perfect melding of modes going on here that may well rival Earth Wind & Fire at their best ... LP, Vinyl record album
A very rootsy album of stripped down tracks by Sami Kamara and his Black Diamonds group. Sami plays guitar, sings, and handles the occasional kazoo solo – and the rest of the group play percussion and vocalize behind him. The sound's kind of like a rootsy version of highlife – with ... Raw live energy from the great James Brown – and a record that comes hot on the heels of Live At The Apollo! Like that one, this set was supposedly "recorded on the spot" – and it's even harder, faster, and noisier than that classic – with a loud-bursting sound that ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of our favorite early Funkadelic albums – and a real turning point for the group! Gone are the trippier guitar solos of earlier days, and in their place is a tighter approach to funk – one that has the band grooving hard and soulfully on shorter tracks that perfect the dark vision ... A great return to basics for William Bell – and an album recorded with a warm, intimate quality that we really love! The vibe here is almost in the style of some of the growing Malaco work coming out of the Jackson scene – with a sound that's smooth, but somehow even more deeply ... LP, Vinyl record album
A selection of tracks pulled from Clinton's early 80s records for Capitol – post Parliament/Funkadelic offerings that were actually surprisingly successful at the time, and which have a Zapp-like approach to funk that's kept them bubbling with the old school crowd.
