What Is House?/It's Now Or Never/Blow

12-inch (Item 382008) Trax, 1986 — Condition: Very Good-

Another great early house record on Trax, by Mickey Oliver, one of the original Hot Mix 5 who's built a reputation more on mixing than on his records, though this one's no slouch. Who'd have thought you could build such an irresistible groove with just a drum machine, bass synth and 8 bit sampler?  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Red label pressing.)

Very Good - (minus)

  • Vinyl may be dirty, and can lack a fair amount of luster.
  • Vinyl can have a number of marks, either in clusters or smaller amounts, but deeper.
  • This is the kind of record that you'd buy to play, but not because it looked that great. Still, the flaws should be mostly cosmetic, with nothing too deep that would ruin the overall record.
  • Examples include a record that has been kept for a while in a cover without the paper sleeve, or heavily played by a previous owner and has some marks across the surface. The record should play okay, though probably with surface noise.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

A soulful classic from Chicago! "Move Your Body" is a wonderful house tune – one with a warmer groove than usual, and vocals that really drive the track in a great way. Classic from the Chicago house scene – and still a bonafide club floor shaker! "Get The Hole" is a persistent jam that continues on in the "Acid Hole" version – getting more beats focused as it builds. "Under Control" and it's dub version on the flip are ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

If you ask us, this is Larry Heard's finest moment, combining the raw energy of early Chicago house with a jazzy sensibility, warm tones on the keyboards and a spare approach that gives all the elements room to breath. A modern classic! 12-inch, Vinyl record

What can we say? Despite the stupid appearance of the band, "White Horse" was a classic breakdance/electro track that crossed over so big it had kids in Kansas running out to by parachute pants and squares of linoleum to play along with the kids in the Bronx. BC, Early 80s. Very Good+
Nice 12" version of this 80s groove number, with a tight "Heartbeat" type groove that's got a nice old school feel, some squelchy synths to give it electro authenticity, and a rolling almost stepper's piano line! 12-inch, Vinyl record
