In A New Mood

LP (Item 3819) Columbia, Early 60s — Condition: Very Good

Great jazzy work by this excellent singer – a tight set featuring Oscar Brown Jr. performing jazz material written (mostly) by other composers, shifting the focus away from his earlier records, which have more of his own compositions. Ralph Burns and Al Cohn handled the arrangements – and Oscar sparkles with a straight jazz flair on tracks that include Mood Indigo", "Hey There", "Go Down Moses", "Where or When", and "Straighten Up and Fly Right".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(2 eye mono pressing. Cover has some wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

One of Frank Sinatra's earliest experiments with instrumental music – a set of tunes composed by Alec Wilder – including some handled by Wilder himself, with a group that includes Mitch Miller on oboe and Julius Baker on flute – in a cool modern chamber jazz mode! LP, Vinyl record album

Voice
Columbia, 1940s. Very Good+
A classic full length collection of early Frank Sinatra recordings for Columbia Records – and maybe the definitive album of his mid 40s material originally issued on 78s! Come Alive
Columbia, 1966. Very Good+
Really groovy work from singer Joanie Sommers – an overlooked gem recorded after her initial albums for Warner Brothers, and put together with some mighty cool arrangements from the great Mort Garson! Lady In Satin
Columbia, 1958. Very Good
One of Billie's last recordings, and an incredibly striking batch of songs arranged by Ray Ellis with a sad, fragile ege that's perfect for the style of her later work. Billie's voice is faltering, but in a way that only makes the songs sound more personal and more compelling – and although ... LP, Vinyl record album

I Love The Life I Live
Columbia, Early 60s. Very Good+
A real standout set from Mose – one of his few early sides for Columbia, and a great one at that! The album alternates between vocal and instrumental tunes – both handled with a rootsy flourish that's every bit the best Allison sound, before it became all overdone and cliched. The set' ...
