❔

Early work by Marvin Gaye – with many gems from the early and mid 60s that were big or minor hits for Marvin during his early days at Motown. The set includes "It Hurt Me Too", "I'm Yours, You're Mine", "One Of These Days", "Taking My Time", "Can I Get A Witness", "I'm Crazy Bout My Baby", "Pride & Joy", and "Hitchhike" – and there's some nice early numbers we'd forgotten about!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Yellow & brown label pressing.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Motown, 1960s/1970s. Very Good+
In our humble opinion, just about every track that Marvin recorded for Motown is "great" – but since this set's focused on the hits, we're happy to accept their track selection, and admit they do a pretty good job of covering most of the big bases – early solo gems, duet ... LP, Vinyl record album
Motown, 1977. Sealed 2LP
This is the second of two live albums that Marvin Gaye cut during the 70s – and in many ways, it's the better one! The record features three sides of work recorded live at the London Palladium – mostly in these swirling medleys that are introduced by Marvin in a very soulful mode, then ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marvin Gaye

Here, My Dear
Motown, 1978. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
Wonderful stuff – and one of our favorite-ever Marvin Gaye albums! This is the legendary two-record set that Marvin wrote and recorded as an alimony payment to his ex-wife Anna Gordy (the story's pretty long, and we won't get into it here – suffice it to say that when stars get a ... Stevie Wonder

Original Musiquarium I
Tamla, 1970s/Early 80s. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
A classic testament to the genius of Stevie Wonder – a collection that brings together some of his most important work of the 70s, plus a few new tracks too – all graced with a back cover note that proudly states "written, arranged, and produced by Stevie Wonder"! That note ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stevie Wonder

Hotter Than July
Tamla, 1980. Very Good Gatefold
A bit smoother than early days, but still very nice and soulful – and did we expect any less from Stevie? The record's got a nicely flanged-out soul groove – with a style that kind of expands on the vocal and keyboard production of the early 70s, taking the groove towards a sound that ... Stevie Wonder

Songs In The Key Of Life
Tamla, 1976. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
A sweet little double LP – one that had some folks saying that Stevie should have stayed away from the "2LP syndrome", but for us a real treasure with lots of hidden gems. Besides the hits "Isn't She Lovely" and "Sir Duke", which were more than enough to carry ... LP, Vinyl record album

Smokey Robinson

Quiet Storm
Tamla, 1975. Very Good
Incredible work – a record that should be in every household! Smokey breaks free of the group sound of the Miracles albums – hitting a whole new mode, and inventing the "Quiet Storm" radio format along the way! The title cut – "Quiet Storm" – is a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Marvelettes

In Full Bloom
Tamla, Late 60s. Very Good+
More of the Marvelettes' classic Motown grooves, and a track list that includes "Seeing Is Believing", "Love Silent, Love Deep", "Rainy Mourning", "Too Many Tears, Too Many Times", and their cover of "That's How Heartaches Are Made". LP, Vinyl record album
Tamla, 1970. Very Good
One of the greatest blue-eyed soul albums ever on Motown – featuring early work by British singer Kiki Dee, better known for her later hit with Elton John! Kiki here sounds much more like a Motown soul act than on later work – singing with a wonderfully smooth style that fits the motor ... LP, Vinyl record album

Thelma Houston

Ready To Roll
Tamla, 1978. Sealed
Thelma Houston is definitely ready to roll here – really using her amazing vocal range to match the dynamic energy of the songs on the set – exactly the kind of material that help her open up to her full potential! The expected clubby tracks are balanced by mellower, more personal ... LP, Vinyl record album
Tamla, Early 60s. Sealed
A great rare, early album by The Miracles – one you almost never see on wax! The album features the group back when they still had a female member, who gives the band a beautiful high harmony sound in tandem with Smokey Robinson's falsetto vocals. A classic early Detroit soul record from ... LP, Vinyl record album

Eddie Kendricks

Hit Man
Tamla, 1975. Near Mint-
Eddie certainly was the "hit man" on this one – a tight album of hard stepping soul tracks, mostly cut in Eddie's famous "boogie" mode of the mid 70s! The cuts mix wonderful soul vocals with some tight jazzy instrumentation – laid down by players like Wah Wah Ragin, ... LP, Vinyl record album
